misfiring

got a G2 17 hmr barrel for my contender that doesnt fire every time. This is an old style frame which you rotate the striker in the face of hammer. What can I do to make it fire everytime ? Have had some problems with a 6/223 barrel also, but figured that I wasnt pushing shoulder back far enough on it,.then the misfiring happened with the rimfire barrel .

I had one that would misfire with Rimmed or Rimless cases, Centerfire or Rimfire.  T/C blamed it on the hammer extension.  I laughed.  They changed the springs for the third time, but this time I did not put the hammer extension back on.  8-9 years later, never had another misfire.  Know a lot of people use em, I still can hardly believed it caused it, but after the last 8-9 years, not gonna use another one.

Search this forum and you'll find a number of threads on this with lots of advice. It usually starts with, "Clean it, really clean it, tear it down if necessary." That takes care of a lot of the problems. Next choice is check the bolts to make sure they are engaging far enough to release the internal safety. And other than something really drastic, that will cover just about all the problems.

My contender was misfiring occassionally and someone told me that it could be the hammer extension.  I was dubious but removed the extension and haven't had a misfire since.
