« on: April 28, 2007, 02:53:21 PM »
Sorry if this is a repost, I searched and didn't find anything...

I know the following are made in the US:
Mossberg
H&R
Ruger

What about Savage, Remington...

When did Weatherbys start getting made in US?  Originally they were made in Belgium and then Japan.

Some are made in Maine. I remember reading about it but can't remember when it happened.

Let's see....there's Marlin, and Kimber.....as well as most of the Springfields.......Thompson/Center, which is now part of Smith and Wesson.....then there's Kahr firearms out of Worchester Mass.......Most of the Smith and Wesson's are still made in America if I'm not mistaken.....

Actually, not ALL weatherbys or Remingtons are made here.  At the very least, the new Weatherby 22 is made by Anschultz (barreled action) overseas, and the new Remington 798 is also made overseas as well.

Most have subcontractors and I would wager many of the subcontractors are in other countries.

I would imagine that some rifles are still 'assembled' here from parts acquired around the world.  I doubt that many, if any, are still all American.

If any rifle maker still uses primarily all American made parts, I will make sure that I own at least one of that make of rifle.

This is what you get when there is a Global economy with work going to the lowest bidder.

Some progress huh.

So Savage is definitely made in the US?

I'm asking this because up to now I have 2 revolvers and 3 shotguns, all made in the US.  I know eventually I will end up buying non-US made guns but so far I haven't and I don't want my first bolt action deer-rifle to be non-US...  So far I haven't had to sacrifice accuracy or quality to buy US and I'm really looking at the Savage accutrigger.

Of course, with that said I have been looking for a cheap AK just because I admire any weapon that you can submerge, dump dirt in it, run over it and it will still shoot...  (and at $300 or less...)

After some 40 years of being manufactured by Sauer in Germany, then Howa Machinery in Japan, Weatherby Mark Vs have been manufactured by SACO Defense, Inc. in Saco, Maine since 1995.

Subject: Sales Email: Where are they made?

Sir: Your advertisement/web page indicates that Springfield Armory is the "First Name in American Firearms", however, wikipedia via the following web page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Springfield_Armory_XD indicates that the XD is made in Croatia. Before I stick my foot in my mouth again, and tell another friend that is interested in buying an American made weapon, that Springfield's are made in America, can you shed some light on where these firearms are manufactured? Raw parts, assembly etc. Where does this gun come from? Please refrain from the whole global economy spiel. I've heard that all before.

Jeff,

Thank you for your interest in our Springfield products.  You are correct, the XD pistols are made in Croatia.  As for our 1911’s, the frames and slides are forged in Brazil and then they are assembled here in Geneseo, Illinois.  Most of the small parts are done somewhere here in the U.S. as well.

Have a great day!

But not the Vanguards they're still nothing more than a glorified Howa M1500
