Also here is an e-mail response from Cor-Bon concerning their 335 gr Factory Ammo in the 45 Colt S&W Mountain Gun:

"Yes, in limited quantities it's okay to shoot any of our 45 Colt loads in your Mtn Gun."

Hope this helps.

I don't think he is the only one that carries and shoots his revolvers. John Linebaugh is a great source of information and a great guy, but you make it seem as if your last name is not Linebaugh, you don't know anything.  :P

REDHAWK1:  I did not mean it that way.  I meant that he has done alot of experimenting with the 45 Colt and he likely knows what he is talking about.  Some people come unglued when discussing 45 Colt loads for a S&W.  This is man who has had the experience is all I meant.

Please, Please don't jump to conclusions as to what I mean.  Just read what I write as direct words.  Your spin on what I meant may be incorrect.

I know him personaly and respect his wisdom about almost anyone when it comes to handguns  but I dont run the loads he runs in his guns in mine. At least not on a steady diet. For one i have no need to. 1000 fps loads will take care of most any hunting chore and if i need more ill grab a ruger. The heavys like corebonds arent going to blow your gun up but there going to shoot it loose. It isnt going to happen in one day at the range but if you shoot them on a steady basis your asking for gun troubles.  Me personaly i wouldnt shoot one round of heavy loaded heavy cast corbond in my 25s. Maybe there warm 255 loads but those big loads are going to give you trouble. Even John doesnt pound big heavys at high velocities out of his.  You have to understand that John has the abilty to fix his guns if they become a little sloppy and we dont.

John L.  Makes this very statement in his epistle to S&W shooters.  And I quote:

"My other  two favorite loads are 24.0 grains of H-110 and the 260 Keith for 1,080 fps and 23.5 grains of H-110 under the 310 Keith or 320 LBT for 1,100 fps. I use and recommend the use of these latter loads sparingly so you don't wear out your favorite sixgun prematurely. They are near the upper end of what the Smith and Wesson can handle safely. This is the load I carry when in bear country or on camping trips. This 4" S&W with the 310/320 at 1,100 fps is what I keep under my pillow in elk camp along with a strong flashlight. This is my everyday backcountry insurance policy."

It goes without saying that any gun regardless of make or builder will last longer with mild loads than heavy loads.  An S&W 44 mag will last longer with 30000 cup loads than 40000 cup loads and they will last longer with 20000 cup loads than 30000 cup loads.  this could be said of the FA 454 Casull and probably any other caliber.

I remember a nickled M29 I stupidly bought one time and then after shooting it awhile decided to trade it in on a blued 6 inch shortly after S&W lopped off the 1/2 inch of the 6 1/2 inch barrels and the guy at the gun store said:  "But it has been shot" to which I replied what was it made for a paperweight?
To him,  if he had one,   his probably would have lasted him several lifetimes going by his remark.
