problem diagnosis

I'm shooting my Whelen and trying to refine the precision. I noticed that the chunks of patches that I'm recovering look like it's just the portion that is out of the case. If they were crimped I'd blame that, but it seems as if they aren't cleanly cut at the mouth - they just tear right about near the casemouth. Almost like the patch is sticking inside the case and the rest flies with the bullet.

Only two things I can think of, one is that there is a bur on the inside of the case mouths, or two that the cases that are doing it are at or near max length for your chamber. I would look at those two things first.

What is the condition of the paper inside the neck and the cleanliness of the inside of the neck? Is there any lube between the paper and the neck? What I'm asking is about the possibility of the bullet moving inside the paper and the paper sticking to the neck. Just a thougt.

BJJ.
What I found that cuts the patch above the case mouth is the case is too short for the chamber.
If you put a slight roll crimp I would also include that.
If you go back and look at the post I made a while back about paper rings and the pictures of recovered bullets you will see the results.
