Shortening a 6.5JDJ barrel?

I have a 14" 6.5JDJ barrel. Nice caliber. The only thing I don't like is that the barrel is too long for my taste in handguns. Have you tried shortening one to 12"? If so, what was the difference in velocity? Thanks.

I have compaired the same handloads in a couple of different bbl. lengths and I get an average vel. change of about 50 fps/inch.
