s&w 460 vs. encore 460

hey guys, as you can tell by the title, i am wanting to get a 460 mag for mule deer hunting here in utah, but im not sure if i want the smith or the encore.  here are benefits for both:

Smith:
1. revolver, more shots
2. the muzzle break on it
3. smith quality

encore:
1. longer barrel, more velocity
2. cheaper
3. encore quality

there are more but for now that will suffice. i would be using lighter bullets to get more velocity and stretch the distance i can safetly hit something out a little farther than my taurus raging bull 44mag will allow me to.  so any help would be great guys, love the forum!
ps, does anyone know how the recoil is with the encore?

 I have had both the S&W 460 and the Encore in 460 Mag. The muzzle break is not needed in my opinion. I removed my muzzle breaks in my S&W's and installed end caps. On the Encore I had it without a muzzle break and with, did not really notice much difference in recoil. Well I sold the Encore and I stuck with the S&W 460 Mag. I have had a total of 6 of them and I am down to one now. I stayed with the one I liked the best.

I chose the S&W 460 over the Encore for the following reason's,  more shots, looks, performance in accuracy at longer distances. My S&W was more accurate than the Encore. I don't shoot them light bullets in mine, I shot the 260 and 300 gr. hard cast bullets. On occasion I will shoot some Hornady XTP Mag bullets.

If you are going to go with lighter bullets, the S&W hand's down would be my choice, with the gain twist, it will improve you accuracy. That is what is was designed for. I like the heavy bullets in my 460 though.

i really do like the smith, but they are really expensive.  i have also been considering a super redhawk 454 casull.  i want to shoot the 240 grain xtp.  i hear the recoil is terrible in the redhawk and also thats its not too bad and very controllable.  i dunno, choices choices eh?

Everyone perceives recoil differently, I don't think many handguns recoil bothers me. I notice a difference, but I know it is going to happen and I just deal with it. Also look on the used gun market and see if you can pick up a used S&W 460 Mag at a better price. But I think you need to try out a few different guns and see which one you feel more comfortable with. JMO

ya that would be ideal to be able to try out several different ones, but the problem is where ya know.  the more i look at that super redhawk the better it looks to me, but i really want to shoot one first.  for my .44 i have some of those buffalo bore 340 grainers pushing over 1400 fps, that seems like its about on par with a 454, and those dont bother too much.

If I were to have a single hunting handgun and were to choose between and Encore and S&W revolver, the S&W would win.  The recoil in both is similar.

I have a Redhawk in 44 Mag.  With grips as supplied by Ruger, the skin was peeled from the web of my hand each time I shot it.  It's much better with Hogue Monogrips.  If I were to choose between a Redhawk and an Encore, I'd choose the Encore.

I also think most people would like the benefit of a muzzel brake in the 460 S&W though it's not terrible, in my opinion, to shoot without one.

I have the Encore, cheaper and can have other barrels, and it looks better to me than the Smith................

I love Encore's also, but better looking than a Smith.........  You are kidding right.

I just dont know how you could say a single shot is better looking that a revolver....  you do know they can correct vision problems now. 

I'm pretty sure I'll never own a single shot, so I dont think I'm the right person to ask this question.... or you could just get the smith.   

You could also look into getting a magnum research BFR in .460.  IF you have something with a long barrel(8" or more) then I wouldn't worry about the muzzle break.

I fail to see the logic in your question. If you wish to hunt mule deer with a revolver, the .460 is a great choice. But if you wish to hunt them with an Encore there are many better cartridges available.

i think the logic is that i want a 460, i am aware of other cartridges available in the encore.
