Need a scope for the 45-70 please help.

D Hiker, with the TRUGLO you just hold whichever aimpoint is right for the distance you are shooting. There is no need to adjust the zoom to a particular magnification. (I shot a hog and a coyote with the magnification on 3X, the bobcat I took it up to 4X or 5X cause I wanted to shoot him at the base of his head. I wanted to see him a little better. )

Been reading posts awhile, finally decided to jump in.

TRUGLO makes a scope for the 45-70 Gov't. It is a 3X9X44 scope. I don't think it is going to be available nationwide until this year. They were sold in MS last year.

I bought one (in Realtree) for my Camo H@R 45-70 and love it. The scope has 5 aiming points. (100,150,200,250,300 yds)

The BDC reticle is matched to Hornady LeverEvolution 325 gr. Bullets.

Good clarity & clear field of view even when zoomed up to 9X. (It ain't no Monarch or VX-III) but for $130 it is the best scope I have seen in its range. Light gathering almost as good as my Swift.

I mounted the scope, sighted in and took it hunting. Did not get a chance at a deer but did manage to take a wild hog @ 100 yds. Bobcat @ <150 yds. & a Coyote @ 200 yds. BDC retcile worked fine. I never powered up past 5X on any of the shots. I've got 2 weeks left of hunting & I know something is gonna walk out @ 250 & 300 so I can see how the bullet operates at those distances.

Cobraa, that might be it. I spoke with TRUGLO last year after I purchased the scope because it was not listed on their site. I was informed that the particular model I bought was not available throughout the US at that time. My scope is realtree not black. It looks identical to the one shown on the link you posted except the color.

All the specs are right I just have a few comments to add:

Eye relief (for my eyes) with this scope is about 4-4.5" tops)
The flip up covers are OK for fair weather. I noticed some fogging when I hunted in the rain with them so I changed them for a better set. Have not had the problem since. Seemed to me the problem was not with the lens coating but the flip covers.

I purchased mine at a store that had acquired the inventory of a regional distributor whose warehouse had burned. They had hundreds of these scopes. Priced right I might add. I liked the first one I bought so much I went back and bought 4 more. (If I had more money, I would have bought even more of them).

Sad thing that money holds us back so often.

Like I said previously this is no Monarch or VX-III but for the money you are getting a whole lot of scope. I have hunted with mine for at least 25 outings this season and have been able to sit in stand until legal shooting light was over. Had Ol Mossyhorn walked out I could have taken the shot with no problem. I watched does and yearlings on several occasions till after legal shooting light was over. (Hoping they would leave so I could get out of the woods without them spooking.)

I know this is an older post, but I saw a product in the new Traditions catalog which might be pertinent.  It is a 3-9 x 40mm scope with the 45-70 bullet drop compensation for only about $50.  I'm going to get one, even though I mainly use the sights, to try out and keep on hand.    There may be other places with it in stock, but this was one that came up right away.

The link is broken and needed to be removed.  The model listed in their 2010 catalog is A1146 and most places stock it under SS-A1146, but very few in stock at places I've searched or their website.

One of my 45-70s wears a Nikon pro staff shot gun 2X7X32 the other wears a Simmons pro diamond 4X32 and that one I used a weaver 82 base and cut a new slot so the scope is mounted ahead of the hammer. plenty eye relief and no need for a hammer spur.

The Bushnell Banner 1.5-4.5x32 has no bigger fan than me but IMO it isn't well suited for the Hanidi because the ocular bell is too large.  The few extra dollars for a Nikon Prostaff is money well spent.

Bushnell has an 1-4x with 4 1/4" eye relief that I have on a 450 Marlin Handi.  It has held together fine so far.  It costs about $80 I think, hard to remember.

I bought a "Powderhorn" scope from Cabelas, similar to the Leverevolution I think, and have been very happy with it, love the reticle. That being said, I have a couple Simmons 4X Pro Diamond shotgun scopes, and will be getting another probably for a 500 S&W. They cosl about $70 at Midway, are very clear, and have long eye relief - 4 inches I think. I have been very happy with them.
