.44 Special & 260 Grain Hard Cast Loads
« on: May 05, 2007, 04:57:23 AM »
I've got a Navy Arms Bisley chambered in .44 Special with 4 3/4" barrel.  The cylinders were over bored and I'm needing a .433" diameter bullet.  I buy my bullets from Montana Bullet Works and David Jennings has a 260 grain WFN LBT bullet that should work nicely.  The problem is I don't have any load data.  Does anyone know of a good reloading manual that would have the data for this bullet in .44 Special?  I plan on using IMR 4227 for the stouter loads and maybe Unique for the plinking stuff.
"My feeling is this, give him pleanty of time, pleanty of birds, and a little direction, and he'll hunt his heart out for me.  That's all I ask."

pretty hard to find a reloading manual with higher pressure 44 special loads. Your best bet may be to post this on the reloading fourm and maybe get some advice there.

Yes, check the reloading forums.  .44 spl has been my favorite caliber for years but all I have ever shot was Skeeter's Unique load under any style 240gr bullet.  With this velocities seem to run around 900fps depending on the gun.  This has done anything I have ever asked of the .44 spl including downing a deer cleanly.  I have fooled around with 4227 in .45 colt but never in the .44 special.  I think you will find that a top Unique load will be plenty in that gun of yours.  She'll back up pretty good in a Colt style gun!  44 Man.

just to nip this one in the bud before it gets started. Id rather you post specific loads on the loading forum rather then here. thanks

I went to Handloads.com, just to satisfy my curiosity & found some loads with 267gr WFN LBT bullets, using Vihtavuori powders, but NO pressures, NO firearms listed, & NO person to contact regarding the loads. IMHO, pass on this info.

Why don't you "Ask Veral Smith..." in the  -  Ammo/Hand Loading Forums  below.  The MT Bullet Works LBT 260's are most likely cast in Veral's moulds.  Give him the make and model of the gun you are using, and ask him what load data to use for this bullet.  I'll bet he will lead you in the right direction.  I use these in several .44 Mags with throats and grove diameters varying from .432 down to .429, and I have had real good luck with them.
