Win. 100

I have a Winchester model 100 in .308. Last week I was shooting it , and I have a  question. The trigger action kind of bothers me. As I take up the slack on the trigger I can hear and feel a very small metallic click. After this happens it is only a little more pressure till it fires.I don't consider the overall movement of the trigger excessive, or the amount of pull. It's just having to finesse the first "stage" of the way this trigger is working. Is this common on these rifles? Also, is there a way to improve it? I would like it to be a nice crisp break.
Thanks in advance, Mark
