New model 92's chambered in 38-40 (38WCF)
« on: May 06, 2007, 04:00:18 AM »
Does anyone know of any model 92's that are currently in production that are being chambered in 38-40?

I read an article in Shooting Times magazine about a Charles Daly Model 92 Takedown model and became very interested. I went to their web site and couldn't find anything on a model 92.

I would really like a model 92 in 38-40 without any of the new lawyer safeties, such as rebounding hammers, safety levers, sliding safeties, etc. I would like to find one with the original half cock safty notch.

Thanks!
Slufoot

I went to Cimarron's web sight and they don't show any model 1892 chambered for the 38-40.

I called Taylor's & Co. and found out that they have made the 45 Colt, 44-40, and that they are now making the 357 Magnums. He told me that I could check back every so often or that I could go ahead and get my dealer to go ahead and put an order in for one. He was a very curteous man but couldn't give me any idea as to when they would start making the 38-40 models.

Companies suck, that do that stuff - Putting items up on a website or in their catalog, then making them only after they get a "sufficient" number of orders for said item(s)!   >:(
Ruger and Remington are good for that, too.   :(

Hello rihmfire that is a very fine looking original Winchester 92.
Did you have it restored? It looks like a new one. I would love to have one as nice as yours but I doubt very seriously that I could afford to buy one.
Thanks!

No....I am the second owner....I bought it from a guy who got it
from his dad....and he never used it...I believe the original owner
may have re-blued it.... but I cant tell...The wood around the tang
has some slight handling marks from a ring or something....and a hair
line crack at the tip of the forearm...which is typical for 92s...At least
I have seen that quite often..kicks like a 22 mag....loves unique powder..
I think its 9.0 with 180 gr FNRP....
This gun is a real shooter too...By far the best shooting winchester I
own.. Its going hunting this year for sure!

I agree with rihmfire get an original. Mine is a 1913 and works / shoots great. She's a tad hard to reload for(thin brass) but it's worth it.
