THE BUG HAS BITTEN
« on: May 07, 2007, 04:07:20 AM »
OK due to the reading, and encouragement of you very nice folks i have purchased a 450 marlin ejector barrel, i know most of you suggested 45/70 and have no problem with that.
just found this 450 ejector NIB and could not say no.
how long do you think a 1x30 red dot scope last on it, i aleady have the scope.
i think i will eventually put 2.5 or 4 on it
as you can see the big bore bug is doing well here.
all feed back welcome

Congrats!!  ;) The only way to know if the RD will hold up, is to try it. I've not seen RDs as the best choice for accuracy, most of em have a very large dot that makes precise shooting impossible, there's no aim small. :-\

i don't like the RD it came with the 280 i bought ????
it does have 10 diff. dot setting, the first being so small I can hardly see it, the #10 looks like a pencil eraser. i am sure i will pickup a 4 power

A great scope for not a lot of money is the Bushnell Banner 1½-4½x32, 4" of eye relief and works well on the .45-70/450M.

I put a red dot sight on my 22 lr Sportster and like it fine for squirrel hunting.  I previously had a 4X scope on the sportster but felt that it was just too big, made the little rifle un-handy.  Would prefer iron sights but don't see good enough so the RD is a good compromise and the little 22 is now handy.

I am sure to get a real scope, this is a 1x30 not much mag. i don't see that well, thought it would make a pistol or shotgun scope
