7mm-08 loads
« on: May 08, 2007, 04:50:56 PM »
Just wondering if anyone has a good deer hunting load for the 7-08.  Just had a new barrel fitted at the factory, along with a stainless steel .50 smokepole.

Guess I got the virus ya'll talk about..........no cure!

Hornady light magnum loads are so good I don't even bother reloading for it.

Hard to beat the Pres.,... so I must also agree.  I shot the LM's out of a 16 1/2 barreled ruger compact and hand 1.25" groups out of the box at 100yds.  I also shot the Federal loading 140 gr BT that was closer to 2".  I latter sold the gun to a female that took a doe at just under 100yds.  It wobbled then dropped.  That was the Remington 100 or 110 grain hp's.  I remember them to be around 1.5" out of that gun.  And the best part was she enjoyed shooting because of the light recoil.  Happy Shooting.

Those mentioned are all factory loadings, as best as I can remember.

I use 41.5 Varget and 140 BT's in my vls but was also looking for something to start with in my new Handi.  I suppose I will start with my proven load but I am sure the shorter barrel will make a difference.  Someone here has to reload for their 7-08 Handi.

Try the 41.5  & the nosler BT's thats what works in my 7mm-08 handi. It groups about 1.25 @ 100yds & it chrony's at 2760fps. I also tried the 139 g hornady interlock spire points over 42g of varget & consistently got 1 in groups @ 100 yds going 2825 fps, but at 200 yds they opened up to about 3 in inches..coulda been shooter error..who knows.  My gun really liked the max load at 43.5 but the cases were sticking & they also stuck sometimes at 42.5 so I settled with 42. I currently working on a 139g Hornady IB load..but no luck yet. Hope this helps. God Bless!

mine love 49.9 H414 under a Barnes tsx 140, its a little warm but shoots consistently well under an inch and gets good velocity. Its more of an Elk round though, a little overkill for a deer.
