Finally shot the 45-70...
« on: May 08, 2007, 05:23:14 PM »
because I couldn't stand not to, anymore.  It makes a big boom.  I LIKE it, but know that it won't be a high volume shooter, at least not with this load (the PMC +P+).

Hopefully next time I'll figure out WHERE I shot it.  I've currently just got the open sights on it, and I honestly have no idea where it's shooting.  Unfortunately, I was on the fifty yard range and didn't have BIG paper to put on the backer; I missed the two sheets of 8.5x11 arranged vertically.  Will start at 25 yards next time.

Nice thing about the 45-70 is you can look down the barrel and see the whole world. They are real easy to "bore" sight. Just center the target in the barrel and then adjust your sights to the target, saves a lot of ammo and is much easier on your shoulder, should get you on paper anyway...

The 45/70 is easy to site in , just aim at a big dirt hill , fire and look for the place were all the dirt is missing .  ;D When you get ready to load for it try 12 to 15 grains fo unique and a 405 gr cast bullet , will shot like a 410 .

I have mentioned it before but my favorite 45-70 load is 28.0 grains of 2400 behind a 350 grain Hornady FP or RN half jacket. It is VERY accurate and easy on the shoulder. Have fun....<><....:)
