Vintage scope question

 Dear Quick:
 On May 7 you gave some info about the Dixie vintage scopes. I never saw the blue steel model before. Is this one new? Any comments or reports about this model, or the external adjustments?

WB, I know nothing about it cept what the Dixie page tells, I suspect it may be a Leatherwood scope that they make for Dixie, but that's just a guess.

Based soley (sp?) on what I've seen in looking at a LOT of pics, I think it helps the overall length for mounting on a longer barrel.  Most pics show them basically from the muzzle the the shooters eye.  Of course it MAY be a sunshade too.


I asked a few questions and here are their answers.

> My question is about your mounts.  The chamber area on this rifle is
slightly larder dia than the rest of the barrel.  Do the front and rear
mounts compensate for this.  There is probably about 1/4\" drop from top of
chamber to top of muzzle.

or does the scope slide in the mounts like some I\'ve seen?  The sliding
ones concern me for repeatablilty.

Dear Sir:
Our gunsmith says the mounts each require you to drill and tap 2 6 X 48
screw holes into the barrel.  The rear mount allows for elevation so the
thicker barrel will not be a problem.  Front mount allows windage
adjustment.  The mounts do hold the socpe firmly.  The rear mount holes doe
not match up with the standard Weaver type scope base spacing.   The scope
w/mounts are available for shipping.

 Thank you. It would indeed appear that the scope is a Leatherwood-Malcolm. Gee, that's nice, all the modern goodies! The leatherwood website describes the mounts, and the dealers.

 It looks like there are different mounting systems on the 2 scope models, 3x and 6x.
