S&W Model 60 vs 686 for "Distinguished Revolver" event

I posted a similar question in the S&W portion of this site but thought I'd also seek the opinions of target shooters.

I'm planning to start "Distinguished Revolver" shooting and had all but definitely decided on the Model 686 but then noticed the Model 60 on the S&W website. The latter has a 5 round capacity rather than the 6 for the 686 but that is sufficient for DR.

Can anyone comment on the comparative accuracy of these two guns or is it pretty much personal preference (and I admit the grip shape on the 60 appears odd to me but I have never actually held one).

Also, for the 686 - and keeping in mind I would use .38 ammunition and not .357 - is there any benefit to the ported version?

I used two S&W 686 revolvers when I shot PPC.  A 4" with black sights and a 6" with black Patridge sights.  The 6" eventually replaced my Davis custom revolver and the 4" rode in my duty holster.

The model 60 is a small revolver and built more for concealment than for shooting.  Not to say it can't be shot, my M36 certainly helped me win a couple of off duty matches but I would never have considered it for my main match revolver.

As for the ported 686 (or any ported firearm), I personally have no use for them.  Even with magnum ammo the 686 is a pussycat to shoot.

Glad to see there is still interest in the Distinguished Revolver Class.
