Scope for a new Ultra Varmint?
« on: May 11, 2007, 10:14:43 AM »
So I ordered the last 22 Mag Ultra Varmint from Gander Mountain. I had a heck of a time finding one at all...

So I'm looking at a Simmons 22 Mag 3 - 9 x 32...

Would there be another option within the price range that I'm over looking or would be better?

I'm going to be using it for small game hunting. 50 yards or so...

Thanks,
Chad

I have a BSA Sweet 17 on my .17HMR and so far I like it.  It has clear optics and the bullet drop compensator.  I hear that BSA now has a Sweet 22, but I am not sure if it is for the .22lr or .22mag.  I like the fact that I can sight it in at 100yards then dial in the range on my target and it adjusts the cross hairs accordingly out to 300 yards.

I just looked, it is for the .22lr.

I also have a BSA Sweet-17, and it's great for the .17HMR from 100 yards out to 300 yards.  But BSA don't make one for the .22 Mag.  Check out the glass brightness, and get the brightest one you can afford.  Stay away from Tasco period.

If you had problems with the Sweet 17 you should have contacted BSA.  When I bought mine at a local sporting goods store they were out of them except for the display model.  They were unable to find the box or any of the things that went with it, covers, allen wrench and instructions.  I contacted BSA customer service and within a week they sent me everything that should have been in the box, no charge.  The optics have been very clear even at maximum zoom.  I haven't had the chance to shoot past the 100 yard mark, so I don't know how well the compensator works.
