Action Sticks on Encore
« on: May 14, 2007, 03:14:34 PM »
I have a TC Encore frame that has a Bullberry rifle barrel mounted to it.  The action  is very hard to release and takes massive effort to get it to unlock.  If I close the barrel very slow, it will open ok.  If I slam it hard, the release lever wont let go unless I strain to do it.
This is with an empty chambered gun.  Caliber is 308 WIN.  No other problems at all with barrel.

Any suggestions on how to correct this appreciated.

Take one of your other barrels that work well, and swap out the barrel locking lugs and see what that does.

Whatever you do, don't send your frame back to Fred at Bullberry. That whacko will end up telling you your frame is junk, then he will scratch the life out of it with his tools trying to make his barrel work, then send it back to you and tell you he never touched your frame! (YES......true story....it did happen to me!!!!)

I tried my MGM 50 cal ML barrel.  Very easy to open.  Same with the Factory TC Encore 12 gauge slug barrel.

I know what you mean about Bullberry.  They BUTCHERED my barrel when I sent it back to have some rifle sight hole plugs installed.  I had to send it to MGM and have them clean it up and refinish it.  It was that bad.

Any thoughts on what could be causing the action to be so hard to open?
In Bullberrys defense, the barrel is very accurate but I don't want to be out hunting and have to strain to open the damn thing for a second shot on a nice deer.

Thanks

I'm just an armature....and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night either  ;D, but maybe the lugs on the Bulberry barrel are not cut right, or the springs are "supersized".

Again, i would knock that little pin out and change 'em with one of your barrels that work. It's not a tough thing to do. Just use a brass punch.
