Yes, the Fox News story states 8 shots.

I didn't read it thoroughly and responded to the unfortunate discovery of the article now being picked up by main stream media.

The very 1st article that started this thread on 5/16/07 and written by the parties involved states 16 shots.

???  I'm not quite convinced - sporting, no.  8 or 16 shots and 3 hours?   The .50 cal might be too much for the 11 year old to handle and could explain poor shot placement.  A gut shot animal can last for a long time.  The boy should have used a rifle or a shotgun with slugs, practiced until he could be consistent in bullet placement, and then told to make the first shot count.  The poor beast did not need to suffer that way.  My hunt hunting experience is limited to two boars - one 215 lbs and one 250 lbs.  Both were one shot kills - a .30-30 for the smaller one and a .30-06 for the bigger one.  I had complete penetration on both.  The smaller boar ran 30 yards and the larger one ran 10 feet.

This is a bit OT, but is for Graybeard personally.......yes, carter's Pasture is out of business.  The family got tired of being in the game ranch industry and has folded their tents.

I was watching Fox News last night.  The boy was interviewed.  He admitted firing the revolver 16 times but hit the hog only 9 times.  The last shot was a finisher.  His father and two other men were with the boy to back him up.  I guess I was raised differently.  My father taught me to make every shot count.  I remember the first squirrel I shot with a .410.  I was 12 and did not know that squirrels went into convulsions as they died.  I just reloaded and shot again thinking the squirrel was trying to get away.  Was my father proud of my kill?  No.  He scolded me for wasting a shell that cost 8 cents. Then he shot a squirrel, walked over, and stepped on its head.  "That's how you do it!"

In the boy's defense there is:  buck [or hog] fever; flinching; a poorly hit hog with the first shot filled with adrenaline [never a good thing]; and a father desiring the boy to "do it himself."

Here is the latest news story on the big pig. Looks like it was a tame farm raised hog released into this enclosure just for the hunt. His name was Fred

FRUITHURST — Before he became known as “Monster Pig,” the 1,051-pound hog shot in Delta was known by another name.

Fred.

Rhonda and Phil Blissitt state, on April 29, four days before the hog was killed, Fred was one of many livestock on their farm.

Late Thursday evening, their claims were confirmed by Andy Howell, Game Warden for the Alabama Department of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries.

“I didn't want to stir up anything,” Rhonda Blissitt said. “I just wanted the truth to be told. That wasn't a wild pig.”

Added Phil Blissitt: “If it went down in the record book, it would be deceiving, and we'd know that for the rest of our lives.”

The monster hog gained worldwide acclaim after he was harvested by 11-year-old Jamison Stone, a Pickensville native, with a .50-caliber pistol on May 3 at the Lost Creek Plantation, LLC, a hunting preserve in Delta. The big boar was hunted inside a large, low-fence enclosure and fired upon 16 times by Stone, who struck the animal nearly a half-dozen times during the three-hour hunt.

The Blissitts said they were unaware that the hog generating all the media attention was once theirs. It wasn't until Howell spoke with Phil Blissitt that the pieces of the puzzle came together.

Phil Blissitt recalled Howell asking him about the now-famous hog.

“Did you see that pig on TV?” Phil Blissitt recalled Howell asking him. “I said, 'Yeah, I had one about that size. He said, 'No, that one is yours.'

“That's when I knew.”

Phil Blissitt purchased the pig for his wife as a Christmas gift in December of 2004. From 6 weeks old, they raised the pig as it grew to its enormous size.

Not long ago, they decided to sell off all of their pigs. Eddy Borden, owner of Lost Creek Plantation, purchased Fred.

Attempts to reach Borden were unsuccessful.

While Rhonda Blissitt was somewhat in the dark about the potential demise of her pet, Phil Blissitt said he was under the understanding that it would breed other female pigs and then “probably be hunted.” Many other of their former pigs — like their other farm animals — had been raised for the purpose of agricultural harvest.

As the Blissitts recounted the events of the last two days, they told stories and made many references to the gentleness of their former “pet.”

From his treats of canned sweet potatoes to the how grandchildren would play with him, their stories painted the picture of a gentle giant. The even talked about how their small chihuahua would get in the pen with him and could come out unscathed.

“But if they hadn't fed him in a while,” Rhonda Blissitt said, “he could have gotten irate.”

Phil Blissitt said he became irritated when they learned about all the doubters who said photos of Fred were doctored.

“That was a big hog,” he said.

The information of the pig's previous owner came out on the same day that officials from the Fish and Wildlife concluded their investigation of the hunt. They concluded that nothing illegal happened under the guidelines of Alabama law.

Allan Andress, enforcement chief for the Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division, said they derived the hog's origin as the investigation unfolded.

“We were able to determine that he came from a domesticated environment,” he said. “So, he was not feral to start with. Therefore, he would not violate our feral swine trapping and relocating rule.”

Mike Stone, Jamison's father, contends that he was unaware of the origin of the pig. Before, during and after the hunt — and up until late Thursday night, when contacted — Mike Stone was under the impression that the hog was feral.

“We were told that it was a feral hog,” Mike Stone said, “and we hunted it on the pretense that it was a feral hog.”

Yeah, right....They didn't know it was not feral. The BS keeps flowing.

Oh well, it's off to the feed lot to hunt a 2000 lb. Angus. I hear they can be really feral. Shouldn't take more than 20-30 rounds to harvest. ;D

What a shock?  This stuff will destroy hunting as a sport.  This is literally the same thing as me selling one of my cows and letting you shoot it for "sport".  It's not a sport, it's not hunting, and it has no place in the hunting world.  This kid and his father should be ashamed and the "outfitter" should be run out of business.

Many of you believe that we need to stick together to protect our passion.  I suggest that we speak in a unified voice on this.  Shooting tame pigs in a pasture IS NOT HUNTING.

Perzackly as I told you it would play out did I not? Like I said I knew this guy and knew the kinda things he does. Here is the full text of the story in case it gets taken off later:

'Monster Pig's' origins revealed

Just as hokey as I first suspected, morons who promote this crap are NOT hunters, they wish they were and they try to make money of passing this BS as a hunt. All the guys who make money from the canned hunting industry preach that we need to stick together as "sportsmen" to protect our hunting rights, its jerkoff operations like this one that do more damage than any anti ever dreamed of.I am completely disgusted by canned hunting and it has no place in states that have an abundance of public land teaming with wild game to hunt,we outlawed it here in MT and it not only preserves the integrity of the sport but it protects us from diseases like CWD that are spread and created by high fence operations,we have had ONE case of cwd found in MT,in a captive elk herd in a canned hunting operation prior to the high fence hunting ban here, not ONE since,ANYWHERE in the state.

I hope i never live in a state that tries ti legislate morals , it can't be done ! Also until i can walk on water i will refrain from JUDGING others ! some hunting operations are good and some may not be , it is a fact that in some places if it were not for hunting operations some people would not hunt , due to cost , time or handicap to name a few ! MONYA , would you wish that all the hunters on the east  coast show up next year to hunt your state ? instead of the operations east of the mississippi ?

  Todays newspaper:    Just to summarize.
Monster pig not wild!.................. Known as Fred to his friends and he had many.
Pig kept in 150 acre fenced in area.  Had to contain this "wild-Boar."
Pig "chased "  for 3 hours before shot.  Now, he ( Fred) must have been one very fast 1000 lb pig.
What a crock! ..................Just my opinion.
Encloser (fenced) hunting is not hunting my friends but rather a means of "hunting" for those who don`t
really care how their target is killed just so they can kill something.
Put another way, Open gate. Point out target. Take steady aim and fire.  Trophy down. Take pictures.
Yack it up............job well done. Oops, I mean ...........Great hunt.
Not my style but that`s my opinion.

Our state population about doubles during our hunting season,10% of our hard to draw tags are reserved for out of staters,i know all about east coast hunters,i have trespassed them off our ranches enough times i can just about nail their state from their accent. Those guys doing high fence hunts arnt going to pack up and drive to MT when their local deer shooting pen closes down, they will go to another one. Some of these states with CWD destroying thier entire deer herd should have though ahead.

well this is just my 2 cents ... ok so the kid was a bad shot but how many people do you know that have killed a thousand pound pig at 11 years old tame or otherwise ? and atleast he kept after it for 3 hours or untill he finished the job instead of saying oh well ill shoot a different one....thats pretty cool, even if it was a tame pig (granted its not real hunting). if the anti hunters make a big deal about it so what, if the government makes a law that says "no more hunting" are you actually going to listen to them?  think of it this way if the government says bring all your guns to the nearest police department so they can be destroyed are you gonna do it?(im sure there would be some of you that would, but not me) of course not thats rediculous and so is tip towing around worrying if people are making hunters look bad to the anti hunters. granted the kid probally should have been using a rifle that he knew how to shoot but he didnt, his dad gave him a big ole hand cannon and you know what? he did kill it. how many of you have had to take a couple shots to kill a deer or coyote with a rifle....now pretend that your trying to kill something that is 10 times the weight of a deer and your using a pistol.....oh yea and your 11 years old... i say good job kid, get some practice and after that try a real hunt without fences.
they can try and take my guns....but i aint givin' em up until all my shells are gone or i quit breathing.

There was ONE pig released into a 150 acre pen,the kid didn't have the option of letting it go and how COULD it get away in a pen that small? This was a hand raised domestic pig,I doubt it was hard to locate. There is nothing good about the situation and it has done nothing but give antis something new to throw in the face of the public. It would be illegal for that kid to pack that handgun or any other firearm  on a hunt of any kind in my state,we have a min age of 12 AND a required hunters ed course before you can buy a tag, this course involves hunting ethics, laws, safety and marksmanship,Ill bet this kid had none of these, the father is to blame for the whole deal, you cant tell me he was stupid enough to not see what was going on there.

In VA he can hunt up to 12 with an adult , and alone after 12 if he has a hunter safety class , lic. needed either way . but your state or mine is irrelevant cause it didn't happen in either .

VA Lic. needed by adult with the child up to age 12...kiddo doesn't need it...after 12 they do.

Thing that bothers me with this whole story is dad letting the kiddo blast away with a .50 caliber handgun.  I have three boys the oldest of which is 10 and it will still be several years before he has opportunity to shoot my .44Mag.  That's a really heavy piece with alot of recoil for a young lad -- some adults have a hard enough time handling a gun that size.  Not to mention I believe there was a story not too long ago about a kiddo in TX that was killed shooting a 454 after getting hit in the head with the gun from the recoil.  Call me overly cautious, but that just seems to push the envelope too much.

Love to see kids hunting, but don't agree with goin after farm raised, fenced in critters -- just not my cup o' tea.

dcewolf , the lic. you are correct , at one time they had to have a lic. my mistake !
as far as shooting a 44 mag. both my sons had shot it by age 11 , also a 12 ga. , a 30-06 , an m16 , an uzi etc.
they could also hit good with them ! my oldest came in 53 in a glock match with 350 plus shooters , won his division at 14 , The young one came home from a trip to the range with a friend who has a SWAT team member father and could wear a target out with a full auto m-16 at age 13 , nither you nor i have the right to say he couldn't handle the gun , at most we can say it appears on the day of the hog hunt he appeared to be off a bit , we all have off days ! He shot it 15to 16 times , i let grown men shoot my 454 and most shoot one time and hand it back saying never want to do that again ! I give the kid credit for sticking with it ! the stupid thing was how did it get in the paper/ tv/ radio ? now thats the person that should be tared and feathered !
the funny thing most people know i hunt , and ask if i heard the story , and think the kid is some sort of hero ! wild world !
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

That's a very interesting and informative link.  It certainly sounds (and looks) persuasive.  The question is this - if indeed the pictures have been tampered with to make the pig look larger than it truly was, then who did it?  The father?

After all of this... I don't have very many shadows left in my doubt.  Everyone is full of it.  The guides, the father, the kid.  All of them.  Not so much the kid, cause he is still pretty young, but yeah.

They knew.  Look at the huge deal they made out of it.  They did it for the publicity.  If I shot a huge animal, I would be pretty excited, but I wouldn't go to this extent so people would care about it.

I mean really, how long after the animal was shot did the website show up?  This was planned.  Seriously.

Look back to my comments when this all started. I told you I knew the folks involved and that it wasn't gonna be on the up and up. It is EXACTLY what I've have expected given what I know of the parties involved. No surprises around here.

It would be illegal for that kid to pack that handgun or any other firearm  on a hunt of any kind in my state,we have a min age of 12 AND a required hunters ed course before you can buy a tag, this course involves hunting ethics, laws, safety and marksmanship,Ill bet this kid had none of these, the father is to blame for the whole deal, you cant tell me he was stupid enough to not see what was going on there.

so what your telling me is that in montana an 11 year old cant go in a "pen" and shoot a tame pig if his dad says so? and we have already ruled out any "hunting" took place so i doubt he would need hunters education and if the pig weighed over  1000 lbs im sure it could have gotten away (maybe not with the kid firing rockets at it but eventually if he would have said he didnt want to shoot it anymore i bet it could have gotten away, if it didnt bleed to death first.) oh yea and the anti hunters are going to find one thing or another to complain about whether its some pig getting blasted 75 times or 1 time....doesnt matter....thats why they are "ANTI HUNTERS", not just the ones that are bad shots.
they can try and take my guns....but i aint givin' em up until all my shells are gone or i quit breathing.
