Many of you guys wouldn't think twice about carrying a gun while fishing in Alaska. In fact most wouldn't go without one. Why? You never know when a hungry Brownie might come visit you, either in the stream, or at camp. It's comforting to know you have something on your hip that will help equalize the situation. So why rag on Hatari when he's somewhere that there are lions in the grass whether he is out in the field or at camp? Come on guys. You know you'd want to have your sidearm on you all day long. I'd even sleep with mine. Heck, I do that in bear country anyway. Don't you? The danger doesn't go away when you're through hunting for the day.
Besides, there are more dangers in Africa than just animals. A friend of ours had a flat tire. While changing it he and his wife were jumped by bandits and beaten. He survived, his wife did not. No gun. Now I know that was not a hunting trip, however, most of you probably carry a concealed weapon here at home. Why? Because you never know when you might need one. Bad guys, wild animals, yeah, I'd carry a backup gun.
