I tried it out this year. I didn't have time to lime last season in time for it to be released. Also, it is very hilly and a truck could not reach the plot. It is very simple to use, and is supposedly immediate released. It is too early to tell exactly how well it works. We do have very acidic soil, so I am sure that it helps. I Have germination with my clover and chicory after about 7-10 days.

well here's the early plot report. The north plot is doing great!  We havent had a lot of water, but I am able to irrigate this one with a sprinkler. The Gain seems to be improving the growth and germination. I planted in mid-May, and though I have not seen many deer in it, I am not able to moniter it with no game cam.  My other plot is coming slower, but I think that it is due to lack of moisture. Germination has been very ggod. Now if I can just keep the grass down. I did Round-Up the area, but there is still significant grass competition. I have been weed-Whacking it down and the plot has done very well.

All in all, Gain seemed to do as it advertised.

Glad to see a report on the Gain, I've been curious as to whether or not it would work as advertised? Thanks for the feedback.

I would like to add that I will most likely lime for next year, I just never got around to doing it in time for it to take effect for the spring.  To my mind, Gain is kind of like a quick, effective short-term fix when you don't have time to lime. Personally, I'd rather be hunting than spreading lime, and everyone says that it can take 6 months to a year for lime to incorporate into the soil.  Also, I plant smaller, less accessible plots in our mountainous area than someone in agricultural ground might. I think that Gain might be cost-prohibitive (at least for me) if I were using it on larger plots like they plan in the mid-west for instance.

Good luck everyone. I really like this thread. Planting food plots is a lot of work, but they have paid off for me and our deer.
