bfr revolvers experiences :
« on: May 19, 2007, 08:10:11 PM »
what are your experiences with the fit and finish of BFR revolvers in 454 475 480, 45 70.
thanks
opinions as to fit and finish and accuracy...
I notice the 50 ae and the 454 and 475 do not appear to be too much heavier or larger than the FA or Ruger 44SBH even.
thanks.  seems the FA is about two grand and the BFR is one thousand... what else is  comparable price quality .. or between the two, etc.
do you think the extra cylinders for 454, 45 colt, 45 acp, 45 win mag are worth having..:
thanks in advance.

Have owned several FA as well as Rugers, and just got a 454 BFR not long ago. Some folks like the rubber grips, but my small hands prefer the FA or Bisley grip. I did shoot Jack Huntington's 500 JRH made by BFR as one of their custom or premium model, and it was tight and shot great! Hard to beat the quality of a FA from inside out, but read an article that John Taffin did on the 475 BFR, and it shot pretty darn good for a gun costing a whole lot less than a FA. The thing I like about the BFR, is that you can load 5 rounds safely in the gun. My BFR is a earlier model, and its at Huntington's to be converted to his 500 JRH. And because its an earlier model, Jack said he can fit the bisley grip for me!!! I think the BFR has improved their guns, and after talking to the owner several times, his company is a small company, so he is always trying to improve his guns. And for the money, and out of the box, the BFR may just be one of the better buys!

Just borrowed a friend`s 45-70, and the accuracy was very good.  Rest of the gun - was similar to a Ruger.

The BFR is hard to beat with any revolver. I have a 45/70 that shoots with the custom guns I own. A 22 hornet in one shot better than several of the hornet rifles I have owned. I have yet to shoot one that wouldn't shoot tight groups if you did your part.

Thks for all the responses so far... that is good news... if I need to go in that price range or went for the 45 70 I would go that way for sure... the 454 and the 475 linebaugh seem to be fairly smaller than the 45 - 70 in overall size of the gun.. is it more like the size of hte  FA in those calibres .
