22-250 Bull barrel!!!!!!
« on: May 21, 2007, 02:06:10 PM »
Another member here has a stainless 22-250 that he says is a bull barrel. The picture he sent me dose look like it is a bull. My question is if you go to H&R's site they do not list a 22-250 bull at all in their barrel program. Does this mean the only way to get a 22-250 bull is to buy a new gun with it being new to the gun?

Have him measure the barrel, if it's less than .750" at the muzzle, it's not a bull barrel which will measure betweeen .750 and .800". You know as well as most others here from posts in the classifieds that a lot of new people think the heavy contour of the standard Handi is a bull barrel when it's not. That's not to say that H&R hasn't offered unusual barrel contours in the past, Shaner has a 24" bull barrel Hornet that has never been offered, he's got the only one we know of. :-\

Since it's listed as a bull barrel as a rifle, but not a bull barrel as an accessory barrel, one of em is wrong, or the bull barrel is missing from the list, The 2007 Accessory barrel pamplet doesn't list a bull barrel SS 22-250 barrel either.  RR doesn't list the SS 22-250 as having a bull barrel but Sports South and Walmart both lists it as a heavy barrel. ???

The H&R website indicates the the .22-250 synthetic stainless can only be purchased with a bull barrel, and it's the only S-S that comes that way.

I wonder what a "superlight" handi rifle is.  It seems it's just synthetic stocks and a 20" barrel.

Great thread, by the way.  I'm awaiting shipment of one advertised as an Ultra Rifle in .308 with a "target barrel."  I assume it is the standard contour, but I am a bit curious.

And awesome reference to the .22 Hornet BB.  I assume Shaner doesn't know the exact provenance.  Maybe it dates from a time when they did custom orders?

You are right about the super lite. It is a synthetic stock with a 20'' standard contour barrel. I would think that a 308 target barrel would be a bull. I guess we will have to wait and see.

A Superlight isn't a standard contour barrel, it's a 20", almost straight barrel with little taper from just ahead of the chamber swell, muzzle diameter is about .600" from those that have measured them.

What about the .308 "target" barrel in question, quick? Any insight?

Dunno for sure, there are many special order/edition rifles that distributors have ordered that it's hard to keep up with what's been made by H&R, but the 308 is available in bull barrel on the Survivor, I have one, it's an excellent shooter!!

Recoil is not bad at all, typical of the 308W,  I've not read of any complaints about the Survivor 308 recoil, and it's lighter and has no recoil pad. Mine has a set of camo lams on it, so it would have less recoil.

No, it's not a special run. It's the Stainless Handi-Rifle 22-250 model #SB2-2S5. Its in pages 14 & 15 of the 2007 H&R catalog. And yes, it is a 22" bull barrel. I bought it from East Coast Gun Sales. Was $268.00.

Measured the end of the barrel, it's 0.790".
