Can U really have too much...
« on: May 22, 2007, 02:59:34 PM »
Emphasis on one gun?  My first Handi was a 270 with swift 4x scope.  The next week I decided to add a barrel or two or three.  I started the discussion with a fellow gun nut and worker.  I was thinking 22 hornet 357 mag and muzzel loader.  I figured hornet for small game and close range varmit, mag for plinking and the muzzle loader for anything and everything else.  I was stumped when he suggested I was putting too much on one gun.  I settled for 357mag only to serve as my plinker and maybe short range whitetail.  My first call to H&R to see about wait I nearly added another barrel.  Then I started thinking I really needed a 223 bull.  Such a common cal, but one I do not have.  So of course it made sense to me.  I called again but while on hold I talked myself out of it again(was a little low on funds at time) and mearly asked for an update on shipping date.  Naturally after waiting 8 weeks I got the 357 and receiver back and instantly wanted all those other barrles.  Of course now I'm too busy shooting to want to wait again for 8 weeks.

So really,...can you have too much?.....What would you consider the perfect setup of barrels to cover most bases?

As MSP said, one of each!! ;D And as Marv said, get an extra frame or 3, then you don't have to wait without shooting!! ;)

Ok, I thought I could generate a few more replys, but Quick's kind of put an end to it with that picture.  That is impressive.  Did you get them to all intermix or can you remember what works with what?

About a third of em were bought as parts, some were bought as complete rifles, and several were accessory barrels which I put on their own frame like the 45Colt carbine that I just got, it was factory fitted to the same frame as the 444 Marlin barrel, but I have extra frames, so I fitted it to its own frame.

I like a frame for each, that way the forend is dedicated and I don't have to remember what frame goes with which barrel, etc!! When I buy a rifle for the frame, I usually put the barrel up for sale here, have sold a couple on ebay, but prefer to keep em in the family here, so to speak. ;)

I'll make it easy for you.
Stop trying to justify your next barrel purchase with silly explanations like " my mid range, sunny day Tuesday after a big breakfast whitetail rifle," and just start at the top of the list and work your way down.
Your addicted!!! Embrace it.

I only have one frame.  I keep a 12 gauge barrel mounted and a box of 00 handy.  The rifle barrels are nice to have.  I hear good things about the .25-06 and .280 (longer barrels).

i started with a 280rem syn. just for a deer gun, then thought i am kind of limited (only have 4 bolt guns in closet) then saw a 450 marlin barrel, i have absolutely no use for it, JUST WANTED IT.
yesterday i bought a 243 rifle from MOOK. Does this give you an indication how this works?

There's no hope resisting, just give in and start buying, there's no cure, just treat the symptoms with another Handi or barrel and you'll be happy............for a while!!

Maybe the Handis' should come with a Surgeon Generals warning label affixed to warn of this addiction.  I'm ready...so many barrels so little time. :o :o ;D

I started with a synthetic 270 I bought new for $165 in 2001, now it has friends!  Since, I've obtained 44 mag, 17 HMR, 10 guage, BC 45-70, 35 whelen, and a 22 hornet to top things off.  Hmmmmm, what's next?
