That's a good lookin' howitzer and carriage! I love the howitzers. What type is that barrel?

I got to see 3 mountain howitzers last weekend. Two were scaled down and one was full-size with limber; they used a 1/2 pound charge with it. I stood around with my son (7) and daughter (4) and talked with the cannoneers (Walton's Battery, I think) about their stuff while my wife walked off and sat down with our baby boy almost out of sight from us. She told me later that a woman came up to her and asked if she had a baby wipe. The woman explained that she was walking around with her slushy when the big cannon went off and she threw it all over herself! She wanted to get the sticky off herself. Har har! It was impressive. One of the smaller howitzers was fired with friction primer. It was good to watch the process. And, it gave a pretty good thump in the chest, too! I didn't spill my slushy, though.

Nice piece! i doubt you'll wear that carriage out anytime soon!

Smoke and fire Jeeper?
I've been having to keep my feet up as mush as possible for the last two weeks because of an infection in one of my toes. I'm trying to get it to heal so I don't have to have it amputated. I already can only count to 18 and I don't want it to be 17.

jeeper, my dad had issues like you are having.

Something I learned from it... many doctors are not that motivated. If it doesn't start getting better soon, push them to take cultures and find a more appropriate antibiotic. My dad's doctor just kept giving him more of the same stuff. It wasn't doing anything good at all.

They were talking about removing lots of his foot. Fortunately for my dad, his doctor got sick himself and took a couple months off. The doctor who was filling in took one look at the foot and the prognosis, made a comment about the capabilities of the regular doctor, took a culture to properly identify the problem, changed to a different antibiotic (a "newfangled" on that the other doctor had not cared to become familiar with), and a lingering-for-3-years infection that went to the bone went away and healed completly in 2 months.

If your doctor is on top of it, awesome.... you found a good one.
Just remember that the person that is really responsible for your proper health care is you.

I went to the ER about my foot and they did a bunch of blood work. One of the tests "a wound culture test" showed what would work and what would not. I ended up having to change antibiotic as a result.  My foot is much improved. The color is better and the swelling is down almost to normal. So I am basically waiting for the wound to heal. Being a diabetic I pay close attention to any problem I may have.
To get back on subject here is the link to the test firing done by Powderkeg when he built it.

I had planned on taking my howitzer out this week but I suffered a set back this evening. Killed the deer.

So whats the problem, that's a Ford...you can't get a new bumper until Monday...shoot the cannon and eat the deer!

Actually I wish you hadn't posted that picture, I haven't seen my 150 in over a year...an Atos is just not the same even If I am hauling a cannon in it...

HI, Yes I made this carriage, all but the wheels. out of oak and brass. I've started a new one with a barrel I got in a kit I fond on Ebay made of bronze. I panted ti black as it was so pitted, and when I filled them in the bronze did not mach. but a nice barrel all the same.

  thanks

Need a radiator too. The shooting area is 9 miles away and 2400 feet further from sea level and I'm on foot.
