Rifle hunting
« on: May 23, 2007, 11:16:47 AM »
I see the expansion of rifle areas is back for consideration. What are the chances of it passing, SLIM or NONE? I would love to see it pass but won't be holding my breath.

People didn't think the expansion of rifle areas would pass two years ago and they did...The one that was introduced this year was similar to the one introduced last year that did not make it.  Keep your fingers crossed and remain positive.  It also could help to contact your State Senators as well as members of the State Assembly.  A portion of Chautauqua County South of Rt 20, Chemung, Steuben and Yates Counties are all in the running for this years bills...Contact your politicians and let them know how you feel.

I really hope it passes for you guys. We got the rifle law two years ago here in Tioga County, and there has been no problems.
It is great fun to be able to hunt with my collection of rifles.

m  It could be different this time. With the opening of rifle season in the more sensible counties..and having no hunter deaths, some of the businessmen in the "no rifle" counties felt a bit of a pinch...when some of their regulars didn't show..electing to go instead, to a rifle friendly county.

I had the chance to hunt Tioga county last year with a rifle for a few day and found it very enjoyable to be able to hunt deer with a rifle.I would like to see the DEC open more of the southern zone up to rifle
That dog will hunt

I live right on the border of NY and PA south of Stuben county. If they allow rifle hunting I am going to buy both of my sons NY big game licenses this year. Ny has more hunting days in deer season and it would give the boys a lot more opportunity. Hope it passes. Shotgunner

I agree with you guys. A safe shot is a safe shot, PERIOD. If you never take a shot at a deer that isn't in front of a backstop or other barrier, there should be no problem. If we hunters do our part and eliminate hunting accidents, there should be no problem.
