New favorite rifle
« on: May 24, 2007, 11:42:07 AM »
I just got a new Marlin 1895GS the end of April, this gun is great ;D I also started reloading and I am getting .87" groups at 100yds with Remington 405gr SP's and 55gr. H-322. The biggest thing around where I hunt is a deer and I dont think any deer will surive a hit from this gun. I also bought some 525gr Piledrivers that I want to try out but I think the trejectory will be like a rainbow.

Jealous is me, I've been wanting one for a while, but the bank hasn't been cooperating.

Congrats on the new rifle.

I'm very happy to hear of your results so far!

I just bought the exact same rifle...I was working at a local gun shop and had a chance to buy one at cost so I grabbed it up, along with a CZ 527 carbine in .223 to cover both ends of the caliber spectrum.

My dies arrived today, so I'll be hitting the reloading bench and range next week!  Hopefully I'll be able to do as well as you...the 405 grain Remington bullets are the first on the list to try.  I was going to use H4895 (because I have it), but my have to try some H322 as well.

That's a great 405gr group(s), but I get much better terminal performance, in deer-sized game, with a 300gr bullet - and a much flatter trajectory, making aiming on semi-distant running game a little easier.
