trunion mounting

was looking at a cannon that had trunions mounted in a milled pockets and jb-welded in place  is this very strong or should i keep looking for a cannon with trunions  mounted better

a little more info sorry cannon is 16" long turned from steel 3" round

In order for the JB weld to actually be in the joint, it would have to be a loose fit. If it is a loose fit, then you are relying on the JB weld only to hold the trunnions in place. Bending forces on the trunnions may break the epoxy with time. Maybe... who can tell unless one tries it?

While I have much respect for JB weld, real welding is way better. Also, how thin are the walls where the trunnions fit?  What caliber is this barrel and what are the various dimensons?

This sounds like one of the barrels that show up on ebay now and then. You may be able to get more quality for about the same if you shop with some of the regulars here.

Keep looking.  JB weld is some strong stuff, but the trunnion bar is where all you recoil forces are and I wouldn't trust it for this application.

 the old saying of J B weld is tougher than Superman's knee cap is true, but i wouldn't trust it on any gun.
