Whic h scope for my new 45-70 handi ?
« on: May 25, 2007, 09:06:51 AM »
I bought two new ones. a Bushnell 1.4x5 dusk to dawn  and a Nikon 4x40 pro-staff. Don't know the eye relief ? Trouble is one has to go on my ml. The Bushnell is perfect for the Ml  The Nikon too long to use without removing the rear sight.
Which one would you pick for the 45-70 and why ?

I'm going to get my Handi 45-70 now. By the time I get back may7be you guys will have an answer for me. All imput appreciated.

If you mean a 1.5-4.5x32 Banner, it has 4" of eye relief. Nikon doesn't make a 4x40 Prostaff, they do make a 4x40 Buckmasters tho, it only has 3.3" of eye relief, the Banner would be my choice for the 45-70 over the Nikon. Nikon does make a 4x32 Prostaff rimfire scope, it has a 50yd parallax setting and 4.1" eye relief, if it will hold up to the ML, that's where I'd use it. I doubt very much if you can use the rear sight with a scope base mounted, so that's pretty much a moot point. Sight removal is easy. ;)

Thank you Quickdtoo. I'm back, what a suprise. The rifle is light as a feather, very short and doesn't have an ejector that flips the cases out. Is this normal ?  When I ;looked at the shell in comparison to the rifle I'm thinking ouch !  I had a Marlin 1895 in 45-70 and sold it  as it cracked me between the eyes with the little weaver 1x3 and I got a slight concussion. After seeing the handi-rifle I will go with the Bushnell 1.5x4.5 the other scope is way too long and big. Like I said I can't mount it on My ML without taking the rear sight off but it looks good on the rifle. Thanks for all you great help.
