New to me 308 Ultra
« on: May 26, 2007, 01:40:10 PM »
I just picked up a beautiful Ultra in 308. Doesn't look fired but it iis a used gun. Stock has nice checkering and is laminate.
Came with a 4x BSA scope.
Can't wait to try it out.

i'll take the rifle any day; but not necessarily a 'BSA' scope.   i'm not sure of their quality.   if you have ANY problems with that rifle you may want to change out the scope and possibly the rings.    also pull the base off and loc-tite in back onto the rifle.

do you plan to handload for it?    if so, you may want to try Reloder 15, Win's standard large rifle primer, and a Hornady Spire Point in a Win' piece of brass.    many of the participants at the NRA's Camp Perry shootout, meaning  the longrange match competitors, use all of those components except the Spire Point which is for hunting as you probably know.

.308 Winchester.    what a cartridge!

take care,

I wholeheartedly agree with Safetysherrif, don't take anything for granted with a used rifle or barrel. Pull that base off and do it right. Don't even waste the time and money trying it out first. Read the FAQ's and check everything out, latch engagement, breech fit, etc... you will be quite happy with your purchase.
Congratulations!
