I just picked up a box to try out in my 209X50. Does anyone use these?

From what I've read, the 180XTPs are fine with 100 grain powder loads. If you desire to shoot magnum loads (120+ grains) Hornady gives you a choice of either 240XTPMags or 300 XTPMags. Those "Mag" bullets & plastic sabots are built for high velocity shooting.

Should you decide to return that box of 180s (and) if your 209 rifle is a typical 1-28" twist, either one (240 - 300) shoots well out of that twist. The 240 flies better.... the 300 knocks em' down better. Your choice!

I have always gotten my best results with the 300gr XTP bullets. I am currently loading them over 100gr (measured) Hodgdon 777.
*To the best of my knowledge, the XTP MAG bullets are only available in 45 cal, so be sure to use the correct sabot if you are changing over from a 44 cal sabot set-up.
I have not yet seen XTP MAG bullets w/sabots from Hornady; are they available together?
For shooting deer and black bear, I do not feel that there is any advantage to shooting XTP MAG bullets which I believe were designed for extreme pressure cartridges like the 454 Casull. Conventional XTP bullets would distort under the extreme pressures of these guns (50,000+PSI)and could cause damage to revolvers. The regular XTP bullets come with a small paper inside the box which indicates the velocity level that they are intended for.

As I stated in my post, the XTP Mag sabot/bullet was built for heavy (209) blackpowder/substitute charges.

Thanks for the info guy's. I have a few different weight bullets to play with as well as different sabots. I have the 180's, 240's with break-o-way sabots, 240's with the green Hornady sabots and some of my own home grown 340 grain. When I find one that shoots good in my gun then I'll stick with it. Thanks again.
