Catfish Jugs/Noodles
« on: May 26, 2007, 07:07:39 PM »
Here is a Jug I made. It will have reflective tape around the top tomorrow;) A 24'x 3/4" piece of sch 40 PVC conduit run thru 12" of "noodle" float. A cap glued on each end and a weight inside that slides down and makes the jug stand up when a fish bites. I use a 3 oz sinker and a 2/0 snap on the end. I have removable Nibs on all my trotlines and have different size hooks on trots for different types of catfishing. With this set up I can interchange the nib lines and change hook size and design to fit the situation.

Here is the end hook up. A homemade swivel from a 20d nail.

That's a good looking jug you made there, what did it cost per unit? I got a dozen of those Strike King jugs at Wal-Mart and they work great. They have a loop on the end of them to pick them up with. I put a tea cup hook on the end of my paddle to pick it up with while grabbing them when canoeing......Hellbilly
I break for animals, I eat them and wear their skins.

Good looking jugs.  They should work great on lakes, ponds, coves, backwaters, and even small rivers.  However, if you freefloat them in the current of a large river, you may find that they get so scattered that it becomes difficult to see them.  Also, if you're jugging in the channel where barges are common, it's not unusual to lose a few when the barge runs over them.  Since I mostly jug the Arkansas River, I use painted 2-liter soda jugs for greater visibility and less expense.  Three or four ounces inside the jug will cause it to flag on a bite, just like the foam noodle.

i use the foam noodles for jugs on grand lake here in OK. my rig is a lil simpler but seems effective.cut the noodles in 12 in pieces, run a string thru the hole in the center and a sinker and hook bout 15 ft below. the black tarred cord works the best and lasts the longest. circle hooks seems to hold cats the best although bout any hook big enuf will work with a preference towards a stainless or coated hook to combat rust yu will get while they are setting in the boat during the offseason.yu can get them on sale at wal mart for bout 1.50$ for a 5 ftr add your string and a homemade sinker and a quality hook and you will have about a buck in each one. they will register a strike well if yu dont use too much weight and yu tie them right. happy catting!!!
