Gotta love those 2.75" #4's

Had a good season this year, got to see and "hear" some good action. Last week was my last chance at a gobbler, as I would'nt have a day off until seasons over. Arrived in woods 10min after legal light on a foggy morning, birds were already out of the trees and on there way. As we worked our way into the woods we could hear toms out at 200yds or so. Got set up in a good position were a lone gobbler decided to hang up at 50yds. Finally he was at 40 yds and I took the shot with my benelli 12ga, using 2 3/4" Federals with 1 1/8oz #4's through a patternmaster choke, and had him on the ground.  I ran in to ensure recovery.
  Bird was   19 7/8lbs  dressed, had one 3/4'' spur and one broken stump, along with a 9" beard. Very rugged looking Eastern Turkey.
No more so called "turkey" loads for this gun, no need, no bother.

Great hunt!!
I have some old 3'' Remington turkey loads that I really like, but have also had great success with 2 3/4" Winchester #4's
I agree, we don't always need the newest, "best" ammo out there.  The old stand-bys have taken alot of birds.
