Cabela's lever action rifle scopes

Has anyone tried Cabela's lever action scopes that have the 200 and 300 elevation ticks on the reticle calibrated for Hornady's Leverevolution ammo?
For $100, I'm tempted to try one on my old 30-30(160 gr). They also have them for the .444 (265 gr) and .45-70(325 gr).

  I know how you feel.  I HATE junk glass.  Have you ever tried the Sightron line of scopes?  They have a fixed four-power model for about 200.00 and I like it really well for this purpose.

I have an S1 3-9x40, it's not the best scope of mine, I have a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 that is a nicer scope, much clearer glass, costs a little more than the S1, but is worth the difference to me. The S2 line is a much better scope, don't have one, but I've looked thru one, very nice indeed.

I think if I wanted a 4x fixed, the Nikon Buckmasters would be one I'd consider, or the Weaver K4. I have a K2.5x20 on my 30-30 Handi, nice little scope.

15 years ago i was a glass snob myself. If it wasnt a leupold burris or nikon for a bottom line scope i wouldnt buy it but ive came to some conclusions lately. The quality of cheaper priced scopes has skyrocketed in the last few years. The manufacuring techniques have improved and the glass has improved drastically. Used to be that you had to buy a top line scope just to get multi coated lenses now you find them in about any scope except for the walmart cheapys. Ive been playing with mueler scopes for about 2 years now and id compare them opticaly to any scope at any price 15 years ago  and i just picked up a bushnell for my ar that in comparison to my 20 year old leupolds actually puts it to shame in optical clarity and fit and finish. dont get me wrong i still like a good scope and believe in buying as good as you can afford. But we are living in a golden age for optics. Right now a guy can buy a good scope for a 100 bucks and a great one for 200 if you look around. If you feel you have to have a 500 dollar scope on your gun so be it. Ill probably be the first one to ooh and aah but dont think that your going to have an amazingly clearer scope that lights up the evening alot better then a 200 dollar one or holds its zero better or returns to zero any better. Because the 200 dollar scope you buy today is a better scope then the 500 dollar one you bought 10 years ago and if you factor in the cost of living there giving away good optics right now. Just like electronics that we paid top dollar for 10 years ago that you can buy at walmart for pocket change now.

i agree totaly but if you shop smart you can get a serviceable scope for a 100 bucks and a dammed good one for 150-200.

I used to be like Loyd too, always getting the most expensive scope I could afford.  However I just put a Bushnell Banner on my 45/70 and it is great.  Less than $100 and it's an amazing scope for the price.  For what it's worth, I wonder why Cabela's makes the lever scope in 3X-9X?  Seems like 2X-7X would be better.  Rev

Rev buck ive got to agree with you. Ive got a 1.4x4.5 banner on my ar15 and its held up to countless thousands of rounds. Granted a 223 doesnt kick much but the guns been thrown in the truck and about totaly neglected and the scopes as good as the day i bought it for 70 bucks. Its got multi coated lenses and is as clear as my old scopecheifs (that were allways one of my favortie scopes) I like it so much i just swaped it on to my new colt hbar match target and just for imformation i shot it today to sight it in and shot many sub moa groups with it at 100 yards. Sure aint a nightforce but im sure not a millionair either.

I, too, was always a Leupold/Burris guy, but when my 1895 tried to put my 3x9 between my eyes (thank goodness for safety glasses!) I put a Simmons 4x shotgun scope on it with 5.5 inches of eye relief, and been happy with it ever since. The picture clarity is excellent (the best of any scope I have, including the Leupold's and Burris's), and I've never had a bit of trouble with it.

Now my next rifle will still probably have a  Leupold, or a Burris, but it will be a tame little 7x57, or 7-08.

Ive got a 2x simmons shotgun scope on my 4570 tc carbine contendor and it was put on for the same reason as you. I hate wearing scopes!! It does a fine job on that gun.
