I did some research this time and I think the 223WSSM may be doable in the Handi Rifle. If I remember right the max pressure in the Handi is 55,000 psi this comes in around that. All of your possibilities are doable, however you should not chamber short magnums and ultra magnums as pressure is to high for NEF. I have attached a list of reamers that I am currently chambering. Many of your chamber selections are oddballs and we would have to purchase or rent a reamer to do them. This cost would be born by the customer

It's not just the pressure that's the problem, it's the case head thrust or more commonly called, bolt thrust and pressure. All of the short mags have huge case heads, the 223 WSSM is .555" also, same as the 300WSM. You can't buy an Encore barrel in any of the short mags, if TC or any of the aftermarket barrel makers won't chamber short mags for the Encore which is a stronger action than an H&R, don't expect it to work in a Handi. $:-\$

Would the 220 Swift clean up the 223 chamber? I don't know the pressures of the swift, but it seems like they were around 55K last I heard.

But then, as was said the 22-250 is no slouch either.

The Swift and the 225 Win are semi-rimmed rounds. This would simplify extraction on the Handi and help with the bolt thrust issue.
The 22-243 wildcat and the 22-6mm Rem wildcat would work, but the case capacity and low barrel life make these impractical, unless the sky is the limit or someone has deep pockets.

Ya the 220 swift will work at cleaning up the chamber of the 223 . GregP42 had Wayne do one for him about the same time he did my 218 Bee .

I am sure he would send a list of what you need. He is pretty quick to answer I have found.
He can do all those, but I am pretty sure he doesn't have all those on hand.

boy that 17 rem is tempting. I have always wanted one, but would rather have it in a bolt gun i think. But now that i think about it i have a 204 in a handi, why not a 17 rem?? what a conundrum.

This is just my opion but I really don't see anything that the 17 Rem brings to the table that the 204 dose not do better. I like the idea of the 17 HMR though for the reason that you can shoot it much cheaper than the 204.

Besides that I think the 17 Rem ammo is crazy in price. It would cost you more to shoot it than the 204. If you reload that might make a differnce.

I like the sounds of that. I wonder what the ballistics would be? I have never heard of such a round.

I wonder if that would work in a Handi.

I see it listed above so I guesse it really might work in the Handi. Does any have any info on this round. Would I use a 223 24'' bull barrel as a doner barrel. Boy this sounds like fun. Thanks alot shootall I may have found a project.

I shoot a 243 Winchester with the 58 grain Hornady v-max bullet out of a Remington 788 18 inch barrel and get 4000 fps so why bother with the exotic 24/6mm calibers. I have a ultra frame and believe I will get a 243 barrel so my grandson can shoot it. We can varmint with it or deer hunt. I also think I will get a 7mm-08 barrel probably camber it on out to 7mm mauser since I already have brass dies bullets.

A 7mm-08 chamber is too big at the shoulder to be cut to 7x57, a 7x57AI would probably work tho.

Remember Deadeye's 307Win Handi? Seems like you could cut a rim on a 7mm-08 chamber and use 307 brass.
If you want 7x57 or 7x64, just watch eBay and the classifieds here until a factory 24" barrel or gun comes up for sale. They made them up until 2001 or 2002.
On the hot 22 issue, how about a 22-30-30 or .225Win if you want a rim, or 222 Rem Mag? (although a factory 24" 22-250 ultra sounds easier)
When I first started looking at H&R/NEF, I thought about buying a hornet and rechambering it to 22PPC or 22BR, but decided that was pointless.
