YELLOW Visquick fuse test
« on: June 01, 2007, 08:41:55 AM »
I just cut some 4.5" lengths (at an angle) of yellow visqueen fuse, fired up my slow match and tested it. ALMOST instantaneous!
It probably could be just slid into a straw and used as a quill !
It does rocket around if not secured . Worked fine in a non-charged barrel, flitted all over on the barbecue grill!
And CANNON-FUSE has it in small quantities!

That stuff is primarily used for fireworks.
I may not be completely sane, but at least I don't think I have the power to influence the weather.

Am I missing something? Does that fact affect it's use for "OUR" purposes?

I'm thinking if fire goes in one end and comes ot the other, it will light a cannon.

To avoid paying significant money however, there are the "scotch tape" and "saturated cotton string" home made fuses.

Scotch tape burns really fast, cotton string burns slower... all depends on how much time delay you want.

I love both, and only use commercial fuse for my smaller mini's that don't have a .200 hole.

But, again, if it works, it works.

Post-It Notes work real well for making your own quill too.

Well, I cut 4 1/2" pieces and they burnt too fast to count.  (PLENTY fast enough for my purposes, I just wanted to get rid of  that "Well is it or isn't it?" thing in my mind)
Still have found no straws of paper,
I think cutting the straw to length, inserting the yellow fuse, adding a drop (DIP?) of diluted white glue and dipping in fine BP SHOULD make a great quill!

$29.00 to $35.00 is a little much to pay for the 10 straws I would need. but thanks for the information.
If I ever stumble across some I'll try it.

"artstraws"  3/16 inch OD paper

Here's some biodegradeable-corn-fiber stirring straws. Doesn't give a diameter, though.
