My 2 bow kill cats were very memorable. The first one shot through the chest with an expandable broadhead ran 50 to 75 yards after pulling the arrow from the ground and running away with the arrow. Good thing for a nice blood trail. The second one was shot through the back of the head and pinned to the ground. A doe and two fawns came along shortly and they circled it and one fawn walked up and nudged it with its nose. I'm thinking they might be a good deer lure. Do ya think the game warden would call that baiting?

You shot a small house cat with your bow and failed to get FULL penetration? I'd sure not wanna use that combo on deer.

Well, when I did get a shot at a big feral cat about a week ago the gun I had handy was my S&W PC 357 mag loaded with a 125 gr. hollowpoint. From about 20 yards away I hit him in the neck and he did the flippy floppy routine until I put TWO MORE into him. Tough critters. He was probably the one that got into a fight with my tomcat and cost me $300 at the vet. I do like cats, but not the feral variety.

I got the impression that the arrow stuck in the ground before it was completely through the cat.

Yes I got full penetration of the critter. The ground stopped the arrow.

That was just my way of saying I put it just behind the shoulder. It made a bee-line to the farthest fence, smacked into it, ran along it to the front fence, and died. Not even a blood trail. It just amazes me at the effectivnes of 22CB's with proper shot placement. I even got one shot stops on approx. 30lb coons with them.

Exactly!! A couple of those woodchucks I shot where up there too!! That big one (jaba) was ALL of 30lbs!! HEAD SHOTS RULE!!!

You know, in a tight place such as a barn or storage building even a SHOVEL works, at close range on feral (OR ANY CAT FOR THAT MATTER) cats.

Last winter i found that the 17 hmr is a very adequate kitty gitter out to 200 yards,a head shot with the 17hmr HPs really make em hop.

22 short , long, long rifle , 22mag. , 17HRM. , 223 , 2506 OVER KILL , are a few i find work ! a 38 spl. was used one snowy night also ! caught a tom headed home from eating the cat food used to draw coon to some traps i set ! he was to slick for the trap , he trusted humans , big mistake !
i love targets i mean cats !

Here in PA there are lots of farms and lots of cats, every year i call some in while fox hunting and wack more than a few when groundhog hunting, last winter i shot two that were called in with a grey fox pup tape, dont know why they would come in to that, but the 17 hmr proved more than enough for the job, I have found a mouse bulb squeeker to be the most effective. I dont take a shot on a cat unless im certain i can kill it, the last thing i want is for fluffy to run back to the farm with a flesh wound.

a buddy shot one while ground hog hunting , 300 yd shot , lucky he got a big hog , or he would have not walked over to look at it and saw the collar with biffy on it ! time to SSS !

I am up to 32 so far. Not a one was a pet. I have passed on several that were. Sent the lab to chase them. The feral cats are big mangy and incredibly tough. My shots are no more than 100 yards to my back line. Most are 20ft to 40 yards. I have to tell ya the 22 with hollow points is real good but the 17 mach 2 and 17 HMR are definetly the cat caliber!! Hands down they do the job and do it well. The noise factor is low so the neighbors are'nt aware with the windows closed Neighbors are 150 yards away or better. The destruction and impact I have seen cannot be overstated. Without a doubt the cat is the most voracious hunter out there capable of multiple nests a day and still go home for meow mix! Shooting cats is just good conservation.

I am certainly no cat lover. (Dogs rule) But I wont shoot one with a collar on...

I had a neighbors tom cat spraying my front door mat for weeks. I went and nicely spoke with the cats owner. He flatly stated he puts the cat out at night and doesn't much care where it goes. I thanked the man and went back home. I very much wanted to use that cat as fertilizer, but my wife talked me out of it. We got a cat chaser instead!!

A 140# cat chaser!!

He keeps momma warm too!!

well if my buddy had seen the collar he may not have either , but it was one of those thin ones and the way the cat was sitting , it could not be seen ( about a 250 yd shot !
now the closest house was about a mile , so this cat was not a stay home cat and for sure he was hunting !
I you have a dog you are expected to keep it home and under control ! We should be able to expect no less from THEM cat lovers !
i think the 22LR is the best bang for the buck on cats !

I believe the law here is more than 100 feet from a house they are considered feral,IDC if they have 2 collars a bell and a flashing red light,If i catch em they die.
