Berger 95 grain VLD in 1 in 10 twist .243 Encore?
« on: June 02, 2007, 05:06:05 AM »
Has anyone got this bullet to shoot in their factory .243 Encore barrel that has a 1 in 10 twist?  I really like the bullet, but Berger recommends a 1 in 9 twist.  What other bullets do you like that have shot well in a 1 in 10 twist Encore?

I know this is a late reply, but I just got a Bereger VLD bullet to shoot from my Stevens 200 in .308. Berger recommended the .308 (30 cal) to be shot from a 1-13 twist barrel. My Stevens has a 1-12 twist which I didn't think was such a big difference so I took a chance a ordered a box of 'em. They are a bit pricey at $32\100 (yikes) but the outcome was fantastic. I was having trouble finding a bullet\powder combo for deer hunting. These Berger VLD are not only a great Match bullet, but come highly recommend (and heavily tested) as a deer size game animal bullet with excellent expansion and wound channel  on deer size game.

To make these work, you have to seat 'em close to the lands. My first experience was to seat 'em 50 thousands off the lands. I shot 5 rounds at 100 yards, and that experience left me thinking I just flushed $31 down the drain. So, I went back and loaded up 5 more, seating 'em 20 thousands off the lands. This is the results...the first shot is the fouling...ignore the little 22 round that got into this target. Distance was 100 yards:
