Enfiled Conversion to 7.62x39 mm
« on: June 02, 2007, 06:07:15 PM »
Check out this conversion from .303 to 7.62 x 39 mm.  Uses detachable AK magazines and new match barrels.

Looks like fun.

I went to that link and yes, they look like it can be fun.  I noticed it appeared to be a new set-up, all around, to get that to work.  I have been thinking of getting a 7.62x39 insert or 5 for one of my 303s just so I can shoot that Ak round.  That set up looks like fun.  Should be interesting to see how they compare to that other modification being made for both 98/48s and SMLEs to handle the 45 acp round.  Wonder if anyone has gone that route yet??  Mikey.

Guys, I'm curious. What is the attraction to changing caliber? I haven't found it that hard or expensive to find .303 ammo or to reload. I admit that I don't shoot my Enfield as much as my AR15, but shooting the original caliber is part of the attraction of historic rifles for me. I suppose if I had several, a .45acp conversion my be interesting, but I'm still curious.

fastbike:  I think the attraction is just the novelty of it and/or being able to shoot inexpensive ammo in an old warhorse.  One interesting note about the 303s is that one old factory load for that cartridge was a 125 gn slug used for varmit (I would suppose), so shooting the 7.62x39 round from an insert (for me anyhow) would just be fun.  Mikey.

If you reload then shooting a small bullet from a .303 casing is no great deal.I have loaded and shot 7.62X39 bullets(.310).They are fun.
With the price of 7.62X39 ammunition nowadays it is as expensive as all other types of ammo so there's no savings there.
The more I listen,the more I hear....and vice versa.

45/70..it's almost a religion.
