Nice looking dog. I'll have to ask the question, though. Am I looking at a Brittany with a tail, or some other variety of pointer that I don't recognize. I just got a new Brittany about ten days ago, and my son also got a new Brittany about 2 weeks ago. Different litters. I'll post some pics later, as I'm at work on lunch 1/2 hr right now.

Thanks Dave,

It's an English Setter.  They come in orange/white, black/white/ or tricolor.

Thanks.  He came from BarLee Setters in Oregon.

Harley's a good lookin' guy!  What do you hunt with him?  Did you train him?  Any good books you'd recommend?  I've got the one by Meuller, and a trainer I talked to yesterday at the gun club recommended one by Mark Edwards.

Dave, how's the Brittany doing?  I've hunted over them and like them.  Would have gone that way if I was getting a flusher.

I got her because I'm getting to old to chase after a Lab or Springer down a plowed field after a pheasant. I've had both Springers and a Lab and I'm really excited about hunting behind a pointer.

Here's a link to some pics of her. just click on a pic to enlarge them and scroll through them.

She's already pointing at pheasant feathers a bit. I'm in need of a book or two. I've seen a couple that are Brittany specific, so I'll probably start with one of them.

More later

You must live in Ore, Bend area? Is that your first setter from there? Did you get it with some kind of agreement on training?

Yep, I live in Sisters, met Larry at the local gun club.  It's my first real dog from anywhere!!  Do you know the area or Larry?

I didn't make any agreement about training.  I'm talking to a couple of different people about it.  I've got a little time to figure that out.

I met Larry when he first got started training. He came by for something, don't remember what. I had some old dog box's or something he saw and gave them to him. Just heard from him on and off over the years then a couple weeks ago he came out to buy a bunch of pigeons from me. Loaned him some bird box's to take them home in and my son picked them up the next day for me. He was telling my son something about getting pup's back for training that he sells. My son lives in Bend and I'm in Antelope.

I have a buddy that flies falcons, and the brittany he hunted with his springers hunted like a springer with two springers - raised and trained that way I guess?

if they were run with springers, you couldnt fairly ask the dog to hold point and let the spaniels charge in and flush them.    that is an issue with pointing breeds,  and it can ruin a good pointer.

Yep, and I don't think he's ever trained anything but flushing dogs so I assume that's what he wanted it for.
