forearm with a flashlight
« on: June 04, 2007, 06:27:05 PM »

Does anyone know if there is someone out there that makes a forearm for a Handi that has a built in flashlight? I know they make them for Remington 870's but I've never seen one for a Handi.

        Thanks,

this is easy bro..

get a AR15 picatinny mount. they have several lengths. just for that purpose. just use an appropriate screw set for your gun.

the ones i have used in the past one several other types of guns have worked just fine.

I thought about that. The ones I've seen for the Remington 870's have a moulded affair that contains the flashlight in a nice SMOOTH unit. The sharp edges kind of have me concerned. Right now the time honored tradition of duct tape is working but that seems like a temporary measure to me.

A friend of mine converted some Mag-Lites to LED back when the Luxeon Star emitter was introduced. I bet he could build something really nice in a Survivor forend.
I've got a Dorcy flashlight with  a 1W Luxeon in it, the whole thing is a bit larger than a 10ga shell, runs on 3 AAA batteries and is as bright as a tactical light (one of the weaker tactical lights, 45 lumens). I've seen them for $19 at Walmart, and this week there's a 3W version on sale at Sears for a bit more. I've also seen MagLites with 3W Luxeons for about $30, and a kit to convert a regular MagLite to 3W LED for under $20. If I could find suitable optics, it would be nice to stick the 3W MagLite kit in a forend with four Nicad AA batteries. 3W of LED is very bright.

If it's for intermittent use, a cheap way to go would be to get a sealed 6V halogen, like the 5W MR11 in my bike headlight, and stuff five AA batteries in a Survivor forend. The bulb shoudl be under $5, and you can select from a variety of beam widths. (I just did a little internet searching and I'm having trouble finding 6V MR11, they all seem to be 12V. I may wish I'd bought some spares when I bought that bike headlight)

I wrote to Choate Machine to see if they had anything to offer. They offered the same suggestion as  Woodswatcher. They said they had everything to do it with.

I was looking at the ultra varmint forend at midway, and it looks like it has a picatinny rail on the front end. It better have something special for $37, that's almost as much as the varmint buttstock, and more than the monte carlo butt. http://www.midwayusa.com/esearch.exe/search?TabID=0&category_selector=all_products&search_keywords=H%26R+choate

The Choate Varmint stock has a t-rail in it for using the bipod adapter shown below, no picatinny rail.

I took a look at mine and it seems that it would be very easy to drill and tap the bipod adapter to mount a picatinny rail.  You would just have to check the lock down screw for clearance with your light.
