What size fuse for a brooks mini 30 caliber cannon?
« on: June 05, 2007, 05:49:40 AM »
Hey guys I have a 30 caliber firecracker mortar from brooks and the fuse I have is to large for the hole currently in the mortar.  Can I drill it out to 1/8"  or will it be to big for the caliber?  I ordered a bunch of cannon fuse and I believe it 1/8"

Thanks

Brad

Want you really want is 1/16 inch fuse. That's what fits mine perfectly.

Pyrocreations usually has some in stock.

If you use 1/8" fuse in a smallbore cannon, you will lose so much pressure out the vent that it won't make much noise.

i have one of the super enhanced 30 cal firecracker mortars
i think he said i needed 1.8 mm fuse  i had some 2.2 mm
it works fine  just need to clean fuse hole out every couple of shots with a 3/32  drill bit by hand

Do you have a  loose .22 cartridge.
Pull the bullet and spread the powder on some tape and roll for a fuse.

I have also just put the powder down the primer hole and lit with a propane torch.
Good luck.

If you had some 1.5 inch firecrackers you could pull the fuse from one.

Wow, pretty cool!  I wore my safety glasses and it was fast.  I did not really get to see much, since I was concentrating on safely lighting it,  but the guys liked it.  I need to get some proper size fuse and some firecrackers to really try it out.  Thanks for the info!!

Brad,

Sounds like you didn't get instructions on what fuse and our recommendation of cannonfuse.com. as a source for 1.8 mm fuse. We have been under the impression that 1/16 fuse was no longer available. We have been drilling an .093 fuse hole in the small barrels to accommodate the 1.8MM, (.071). Somewhere on this sight are night pics of "twin barrels" one with 1/8 vent and one with 1/16 at detonation. Incredible difference. Next day we changed to 1/16 til (I thought) it was no longer available.

Now, with the 1.4MM (.03937X1.4) .055"  diameter fuse, I will be looking at going back to 1/16 (.062") vent.

If you do not get good results with the tape, go ahead and drill out the fuse hole to 1/8" tonight. You will still get a pretty good report.  I will ship another barrel tomorrow n/c in return for your comments on the difference between the two when they are loaded exactly the same.  This way you can play tonight.  I wouldn't want to hold up the fire dept. when they need me!  Hell, someday I might catch my wife's garden on fire and need you guys!

Michael, thats great!  But really you dont have to do that.  I have not drilled this one out yet, and I would never ask for anything at n/c.  I used the tape but only once, because I could not sit back and watch it and plus we got busy and just now getting back to station, its midnight here and to late.  I am sure I can easily find fuse of the right size to use.  And I will just use the stuff I ordered for my bigger mortars.  I think thats very professional to offer another barrel but really you dont have to.  I have recieved all kinds of info here from everyone already at no charge to me!
