Let's see if this would work: changing the buttstock.
« on: June 06, 2007, 05:36:01 AM »
Looking more and more at the Target Rifle with the Curved buttplate and thinking that there HAS to be a better way to install a regular recoil pad. So...   This is what I came up with ! ;D

1. Take off the buttplate.

2. Bandsaw a small peice of Black Walnut the size of the buttplate with the curve on one side and a flat end on the other side.

3. drill holes to match the original plate.

4. Glue new piece to stock.

5. Install new recoil pad to buttstock using longer screws.

Simple!! ;D

Or you could remove, save the Target stock, and install this one that you can buy from NEF

This is the Pardner Youth with a 12 1/2" LOP.  Add a 1" pad and VOILA! full size.

If you want it to look nice, you can add the Topper deluxe Classic stock which is checkered walnut, it's available in youth or full size, mine is the youth.

I traded a BC stock with a member here.  I got a TDC stock with the recoil pad and checkering which matched the BC stock.  Am I happy?  YES!  Would I trade back?  NO!  It makes the BC much nicer to shoot, and it looks just as nice as that shoulder pounding metal curved butt plate, at least to my unsophisticated hillbilly eyeballs.

I got that one from Brownells for $47, I suspect the adult version from H&R is $57 or $66, but you'd have to call em and ask.

Can I get the forearm like you have also?  I guess that's a BC forearm?

You can get either forend from H&R, mine from Brownell's was $24 or so IIRC, you can also get the BC Carbine forend from H&R, just a short version of the BC for $33.

Well I'll be darn,  in 3 years on this site I never realized I could get a WALNUT stock and forend.  It just never clicked.  Lol, you learn something every day.  Oh well, I've got an order to make.

Thanks,

Tim,
What's the LOP on the youth model, with and without pad?  Does it come with a recoil pad from Brownells?

Tim,
Also, do you have a brownells part number?  Looking on their site there are no pics to be sure what I'm getting.

I have shot my 500 S&W with medium loads using the tdc junior buttstock.  It is a great stock for my build but the fullsize tdc might be better.
