with 3 boxes of ammo.
any of y'all shoot one?
i really don't want to get back into handloading, and i know the rimmed chamberings almost always shoot best (boy, i shoulda kept the two .30-30s i had).
anyhow, how do yours shoot?

I don't have one, but I do know that their fairly rare and hard to find.  Personally, I'd get it just for that reason.  And if you decide you don't want it later, you could always sell it to me! ;)

Congrats!! I've had one for a couple years, it shoots the Federal and Norma ammo pretty good, but handloads shoot even better with IMR7828 and the 160gr Nosler Partition, less than 1" groups. I got some S&B ammo for it that is boxer primed for $11 a box but haven't shot it yet. Speer does make brass for it tho.

Federal no longer makes ammo for it, Grafs carries PRVI for it and it's real reasonable, dunno how it shoots tho. The only other mfr is Norma at $40+ a box!!

One thing you can do to get away from the expensive ammo and brass, run
in a 280 Rem reamer and turn it in to a  280 Rem.

The 280 Remington is a little bigger all around but not much, it also hold a bit more powder. It is a very simple conversion.

But you need to make a chamber cast before proceeding.

figured as much.
i had a .280 handy that shot very well. thing was just too heavy with that 26-inch barrel for what i wanted at the time ...
if i get this thing, i'm figuring with handloads factory 7x57 ballistics with 160 or 175 grain bullets. nothing high pressure.

But Fred, then it wouldn't be a 7x64 Brenneke!! ;D  I got voted out of that option when I was considering rechambering mine to 280 Improved, glad I didn't now that I have a 7x57 on the way, having both of the rare calibers is kinda neat, not worth much, but neat!! :D

It'll almost match the 280, but you'll have 2" less barrel to do it with since the 7x64 has a 24" barrel.

Yeah Tim you said it.
You know all the trouble I went throu getting a Ruger#1 converted to
a 7x57. Still waiting for some more parts.

The 7x64 is a fine caliber even though the ammo is more expensive myself
I would not rechamber it. It has more power than a 7x57.

The 280 Rem in this country is a more logical choice.
