reloading for a Taurus
« on: June 08, 2007, 07:11:16 AM »
I was wondering if anybody has any experience reloading for Taurus revolvers. I want to get a 41mag and Taurus seems to be the only one that makes them in DA,(I know Smith made them in the 625 mountain gun for a bit). I would like to know how hot you can load for a Taurus say vs a Smith or Ruger.

I load 45LC for the Taurus 44-Ten at max loads with no problem.  Same with the Taurus PT-92 semi-auto.  Be advised, according to their manuals, using handloads will void the warranty.  But that's just between you and me, I won't tell them!  (Haven't had to use their warranty).

I have shot some very stout loads through my Taurus model 66 4" 357Mag without hurting anything but my hand.  They seem to be tough revolvers and I think they are much better than most people give them credit.  The only 41 I load for is a Ruger BH and wouldn't hesitate to shoot my full power loads in a Taurus but won't recommend them for somebody Else's firearm cause if it was over-pressure and blew up I'd feel partly responsible for someones trouble and pain.

I fail to see any difference between loading for a Taurus and anything else.  I use the same precautions with all reloads and feel that if I own a gun that will not withstand handloads it has no chance of withstanding factory ammo either.  If I can't load for it, I won't own it!

I have the RB 41 mag and have shot up to 21grs of H110 using a 210 rem jsp.  The load I settled on was 20.5 grs but had no problems with 21grs.
