LOL We are not exactly building a fort..,we are using cinder blocks and mortar.,then a smear of mortar and a"Stamp" That looks like stone castle/fort walls . This a 4 room motel a scuba shop .,a restaurant bar "In" the marina and of course our ship 55ft . Lance we will have a stretch of beach 130 ft between the house and the bar that will have 2 HERN 3" ordinance rifles., facing the sea . (shipping sucked for getting those to the Philippines) ) . The bar has 2 cannons by the ships wheel facing the sea . The scuba shop will have my bronze mortar and swivel gun along with guns collection and other nautical old world decor. The ship will have the 6-pack Wes is building. For events we could get the bar cannons and the swivel onboard making for a 9 gun scuba diving "Sloop of War" . This is a work in progress we plan to open in 2010 . I am going as fast as I can ., Alot has been done ..,however there is much more to do . Its a dream we are getting the pieces for .,at this point the foreshore has been approved and 1 sea wall is finished.

Trop,

If you are building with blocks and mortar, and then putting mortar on the outsidie to "stamp"... there is a different construction technique that will go faster and is probably better suited for a wet environment. I don't know if the stuff is avialable in some form in the Philipines, but if it is it may be worth knowing about....

Fiberglass reinforced mortar... you dry stack the blocks (much easier than slopping mortar between them) and then you smear the reinforced stuff on both outsides. It is as strong as conventional mortar between joints, but it resists moisture much better. It also seals the faces of the blocks. You could stamp the outside with your stamp while you are at it.

I have used the "Qucikcrete" brand known as "Quickwall". I used it to make my powder shed, I was able to put the entire thing up in one single day, leaving more time to do fun stuff. You can add concrete coloring agents to it if you wish, or even paint it.

Tropico, I have had a series of email exchanges with Wendy from Middlesex Village Trading Co. It seems that she might be getting in an order of 15 inch brass blunderbusses in a couple of months, so I might be in luck

From what little I know so far, these things are basically 12 Gauge shotguns... does that sound about right? I load BP breechloading shot for my 189x damascus SxS shotgun. I am guessing I can use the same wads and such in the bluderbuss, or is it more of an 11 gauge?

Rickk the BlunderBuss I got from Wendy is .70 and a Brass 15" the 18" has a double wedding band. I dont use a wad., just (Dont laugh now) 40 gr ffg a peice of bread and a .69 roundball. Pretty much I would sayi tis a 12 guage..,i think that a 12 gauge is .75 on the outer shell casing., I have a Heckler Koch 10 gauge flare gun..., and so I know the buss is not a 10 or 11....,yea its a 12.

Lance here are a couple of sketches for you. the right sea wall is complete (Left on the topographical)
The pictures on the Website are of the 3 & 4 plex not beach or resort stuff. The plexs are in case the resort fails., I wont have to eat the beach. The resort will have a more fort look to it than the rentals that much is certain. .

I bought six muskets an a doglock pistol from Wendy for my Rev War unit. Nice people. Mention my name (Mike from the 6th Maryland). Not that it will help, but I think she may realize how much I try to pump them up. (6 more went to the De Military academy, and our national guard may buy 25 (!) more. She has to eventually notice. Rich, darn it i'm used to calling you Tropico, any way, man that's a great set up. i really like the plans, i don't think it will fail. think positive, i'm wishing you all the best. only thing to keep my mind off the winters,will be knowing my friend is building a great resort that i can visit. the snow ain't too bad on the blue ridge, it's the wind!!! dang wind never lets up, colder it gets, the harded the wind blows. of course, no wind when it's warm, strange mountains. hurry up Rich, three more winters before your open for business, well maybe they will be mild ones...........

Rich, i guess i keep missing the pictures of the 55 foot ship, are they on your web site? did you build it? a guy i used to work with always talked about building one, guess what? he sends me postcards from all over the world now, just to prove it ain't sank yet. just wondering, what do the locals think about cannons being fired? all i know is what i see on the news and most of the world frowns on gun ownership.

The ship is essentially what the locals call a "Banca" kind of a canoe with 2 out riggers and a 4 cylinder. We are using 2 55 ft hulls and creating a 48 ft dive platform in the middle..., this allows for a forecastle.,a poop deck .,and a mast (Sloop) with cannons in the middle . Its not finished. I can only get one thing at a time going. Ours will be a ......, well consider this.....,a S.E. Asian Tropical catamaran "Galleonized" camper special. We have to do what we need to accomplish the goal..,but we have to use whats available.,here and in the Philippines.

Ya gotta remember I own a rooter service in Washington...., its good money....., but I am still working it 24 and 7 cleaning drains...,except once a year when we go to the Philippines to check on our production. This stuff in the Philippines is a work in progress it takes time.,work .,dedication and focus to become a Pirate King. I been into this since 1999 ., so 2010 to get finished is a long time to focus on a dream. That's 11 years for the beach dream Its coming.....,don't worry...,its coming..., As you can see from the photos..., we are progressing.......,but we are not there yet ..,retiring to the tropics by age 50 requires alot of focus for a guy with an 8th grade education. Pictures are slow going..,I got a few years left. We just finished that 3 plex...,I gotta be in money saving mode for another year now before Ill be able to add further production photos to my site. I can use my money up building the rest of the marina faster than I can make it.

Oh yea..., About your diving......, You can get PADI certified thru using us in 4 days., PADI is the way the world dives. The license is lifetime and global..., Its truly UNBELIEVABLE. Diving an OPEN WATER COURSE is easy and AWESOME.

OK so not quite as elegant...,my pal Al an I got him a swivel gun together as well for the up coming holiday. I am liking the idea of a local shooting partner.

The jack stand it just to support the cannon in general..., for firing..,Al is working on a tripod of his own.

Yes there is more than one car part in there.

Tropico, have you actually fired your golden swivel gun yet? i've been thinking about building one, just wondering how well the stand holds together.i'll probably go the same route you did on getting the yoke, but i might make a different kind of stand, all depends on your test firings.

Well I may be firing July 5th., not sure just yet..., definitely July 15th and will probably have a second stand built for this swivel of Als ., Pics ., video and a report to follow on these swivels to be sure......., by the way.., my Dominick built yoke is the way to go and gets lots of lookers.

Lance I got this barrel on Ebay in April ...., 3 1/2 X 21 with 1" bore for 350.00 + shipping 60.00 I felt pretty good about it at the time...., but now I feel I stole it ! ., I am always looking for 1" bore stuff it has a good report. I see 1" bores on eBay once in a while but usually not longer than 16 or 17 ..., and hardly ever with the 3" or better breech.

hey Rich, thanks for the info, it's good to have friends. i wondered where you got it cause i never could find one just like it anywhere, yeah i think you stole it too. i'm thinking about building one with a 1.70 bore, can't help it golf balls are fun, but paying for brass that size ain't. how's Al doing with his swivel gun project? thanks again........

I thought I better fire this thread back up., Lance Brass that size is spendy no -doubt..., you know whats worse is buying bronze.....,

Alans Swivel is at my house now getting a new tripod built for it., My employee (John) bought mine ., Dominick built me a new swivel..., and I am doing a new tripod as we speak for my new one.
I got a bronze for the new yoke ., I will be out for a while yet on it...., but its coming...., pics soon.

mmm no .., this is a different thing going on Lance. first off ., Johnnie (my employee) had to have my 21" X 3 1/2" Bronze Swivel...., and Alan just plain wanted a matching tripod., its proven to work well ., firing cleaning., everything all at once..., even for suspending an iron pot and melting lead. .., so o.k. Now with that.., I HAVE to replace my swivel I contacted a cannon maker and altered the size of the ships 6-pack project blueprint to make a 24" X 4" swivel cannon in bronze. this will have a 1" bore. (I know., I know people are thinking I should have a golf ball bore) Try a 1.75 bore with a lead ball in your hand? BAAAMMMM ! No. I decided to keep to what my friends have so we can interchange ammo and foil charges., so I do not one up on them....., I thought that to be cool and ., besides with a 4" bronze breach and a 1" bore...., I could probably up my charges safely and call it a 1" MAGNUM Swivel

. I am excited to get this....., I really like having a matching bore to my pals for shooting together ., thats pretty cool.

Also the swivel and trunnions on my new swivel and my employees will interchange I thought that better as well since he will be on the boat with us as well.

Now the 6-Pack Wes is building ., that pattern is the same as this new swivel (Wes designed the pattern for me) ., just a little bigger., with 1 1/2" bores. 2 cannons in Bronze and 4 cannons in Stainless Steel ..., that should hold up rather well on the boat I hope. I will resurrect that thread when Wes is ready. I wish I would have went all Bronze., but it just worked out there is 4 Stainless......... I am happy tho.

i'm a firm believer in 1" guns, ever since the SEACOASTARTILLERY guys came to town with their 1" 100pd Parrott,and i got a chance to shoot it, well, i'm hooked!!! really, i think 1" is perfect, that has to be the best all around size for fun and serious firepower too!!! i don't think Rich will be shooting 7oz armor piercing hardened steel rounds though. or will he???
