I am in the market for a 44mag revolver that I will use for deer and black bear here in the north east. I have my mind somewhat set on a Ruger Redhawk (not the Super). A guy that I know has one for sale with the 7 7/8 bbl in SS with the intergral mouted scope rings. The gun has less than 100 rounds thru it and is like new for $300.

Anyone with opinins on this or others I should consider ? I do kinda like/prefer the Ruger Blackhawk Hunter which I could get for around $450 new !

Thanks
BP

The SS Redhawk sounds like a deal to me. You could take that $150 extra that you'd spend for the BH Hunter and buy a nice scope.

I would jump on it if it were me. I prefer 5.5 length, but thats just me. For hunting that sound about perfect. Great price.

my opinion, by it know. if ya don't like it , trade it. a redhawk at that price is unheard of around here.

just happened to look at that gun yesterday. around dallas they are around 400-425 used 500-525 new i think you ought to buy it, try it, if you dont like it sell it for 400. To cheap to pass up. Why cant i get a deal like that :roll:Those prices were without integral scope mounts which are very desirable to me. as myronman3 says you can go from scope to scopeless and back in seconds and still be sighted in

les hemby,

Did I understand your correctly?  On my Super RH could I remove the scope and then reinstall and maintain zero?

I did not understand this, please confirm.

Thanks,

Fred

i would pm myronman3 and ask him for sure but i believe it would work just like tip off mounts because they will go back exactly to same spot. he says it will work on his sbhhunter so should on srh . i have also had weaver mounts work like that. so i'm gonna say yes but i would shoot for sure. i think this feature is great.

you bet you can!   something i learned not too long ago.   and i have done it several times, then tested my zero and she is dead on.   damn slick if i do say so.  with a quarter in my pocket i can do to scoped to unscoped, then unscoped to scoped in about a minute.  DO BE CAREFULL not to lose any pieces while afield as that could be a real problem.  the mounts will unscrew all the way if you get carried away.   i think maybe using a center punch on the end of the thread might help to keep it from coming all the way off: but...I HAVE NOT  taken the time to see if that is doable without messing up the system; so BE CAREFULL!!

myronman3,

Thanks for the info I have:

Ruger markII pistol 22lr

Ruger Super Redhawk 44 mag

Ruger M77 30-06

Ruger M77  22lr

All have the intergal scope mount and share this feature.

I will use this feature!  Thanks again.

I will be the odd one here.   Taurus model 44,  6.5" barrell.  Personally traded away a redhawk for a contender and now a few years ago added the Taurus .44mag.

not odd at all.   i have rugers, taurus, and t/c's.   they are all fine in their own right.   but a ss redhawk for $300?   sounds like a  deal  a fellow just cant pass up.   i mean even if there were something wrong with the gun,  i am 100 positive that ruger would fix the problem; that is just the way they are.
of course now i look at the date on the original post and realize if you didnt get it, it is already too late.  so...????
