.32-20 bullet?
« on: June 09, 2007, 06:44:23 PM »
Buddy of mine has an old Stevens 44 in .32-20. We took it to the range the other day with a box of Winchesters and a box of BP loads that his dad had done up years and years ago. Well the smokeless couldn't hit the broad side of a barn at 50 yards where as the BP shot perfect clover leafs. Well needless to say he wants to start loading black powder for it so my question is who makes good bullets for BP for the 32-20. He doesn't cast so store bought is a must any and all help is most welcome.

Thanks

the .32 doesnt seem to have a very large selection from casting companies.

Hope those links work ok. I have ordered bullets from MT. Baldy and I am very happy with them.

Were the smokeless loads factory loads?  If so, the problem might not be the powder.  My "original" 92 Winchester has a .312 bore.  Many, if not all of the "new" 32-20's have a .308 bore.  Mic your smokeless loads, the bullets may be undersized for your "antique" rifle.  If so, you’re stuck with shooting boolits.  As they say, "Damn the bad luck".  The best boolit I have found is an "original" Winchester mould that throws a 112-113 grain boolit.  I've seen several on Ebay for less than $50.

Yes they were factory Winchester loads unfortunately we shot all of them do cant Mic them. My friend has already ordered some cast boolets and some reloading dies so he should be good.
