Heat and Humidity and CAS
« on: May 27, 2003, 07:11:52 AM »
Finished a two day club match last week-end.  Both days we have clear Texas skies, bright Sun with the temp and humidity in the 90% range.  My boots were soaked clean through.   :(
Matches like this you have to drink lots and lots of water.  And stay in the shade when possible.
Found that about 1/2 through a bite or two of food really helped but you gotta have water if you're going to eat.  Also be real careful to wash your hands what with the lead dust and all.

Good tips Cheyenne, that goes for dry heat too. drink plenty of water before you need it. Drinks that have a lot of electrolites in them. like cranberry juice is good too. Summer is right around the corner.

Best I ever found was an old army trick. Take an unlined felt campaign hat. Pour water in the crown and let it soak in.  Now ya put it on, and as the water evaporates it cools yer head. My old campaign hat has worked great for years like this, makes me understand why the Army stuck with them so long, and always left them unlined.
Limber up!
