Hollow points or solids in a sabot
« on: June 10, 2007, 02:44:57 PM »
When you guys use a sabot have you found that hollow points or solid points are more accurate around 100 yards..............................as a side note how do buffalo bullets 385 grain hollow points work at 100 yards?

Thanks

It depends. I get a little better accuracy with the hollow point xtp than I do with the sold sst. In other cases, a solid may be more accurate than the hollow point.
Aim small don't miss.

At my last range session, I got exactly the same accuracy with 300 grain Hornady XTP hollow points as I did with Sierra 300 grain jacketed soft points (which have a flat lead nose).

The load was 100 grains Triple 7 with a Harvester crush rib sabot.

A fifty-yard five shot group of the Hornadys measured 1 5/8" center to center and chronographed at 1747 fps (average for 5 shots).

A fifty-yard five shot group of the Sierras also measured 1 5/8" and chronographed at 1737 fps.

A fifty-yard five shot group of 250 grain Speer Gold Dot hollow points measured 2 1/8" and chronographed at 1850 fps.

In both of my MZ's (50 cal) HP and solids work at the same accuracy level.

I like the buffalo bullets and have had good luck with accuracy with them.

Hollow-points are much more popular for sabot use.

Conicals like the Buffalo 385s must be tested by the ML owner - when dealing with a fast twist sabot gun. Many shooters had more success with conicals over 400 grains in fast twist rifles.
Keep that ML smokin'
