Getting BLR 308 need a quality scope
« on: June 11, 2007, 02:55:47 AM »
Hi All

I am waiting for a Stainless Steel 308 BLR.  I would like a Silver scope to mount onto it.  My shooting is anywhere from short range (20 metres) fast moving targets to longer range shots out to 300m where the target is stopped.  The varmits are feral cats, goats, foxes, feral pigs and rabbits.  In Australia the feral animals do blend into the background quite well so a nice clear view is necessary.  Shooting will be during the day mostly, with a spotlight at nightime, so want good light transmital.  I would like good quick target aquisition as well as the small animals can move very quickly.  Price is not really a concern as I want a good quality scope that will meet my needs.

The scopes that I have chosen so far are:
Leupold VX-III 2.5 - 8*36mm
Leupold VX-III 3.5 - 10*40mm
Bushnell Elite 4200 2.5 - 10*40mm
Zeiss Conquest 2.5 - 8*32MC
Zeiss Conquest 3 - 9*40MC

Please comment on what you would prefer and why, if there are any other quality scopes that meet my needs please list.  I live in Australia so I am a bit out of step time wise with you guys but look foward your replies.

Thanks
Justin

You can't go wrong with any of those.   As close as 20 yds I'd go with the 2.5 - 8 to get the widest field of view.

I would pick the 2.5-8x Leupold or Zeiss and not look back.

I've had a 2-7x28 Leupold Vari-X compact on my 308 BLR for 24yrs, it's never disappointed me. ;)

They are all excellent scopes.  That said, I personally, on that particular gun, would get the Zeiss Conquest 3x-9x-40mm

Hi All

Thanks for all your feedback, after reading hundreds of posts to see what other people were looking at you guys came to the same consensus as myself, ie the 3 - 9 Zeiss, or the 2.5-8 (I chose the Leupold for the silver finish only ;D).  I am probably leaning towards the Zeiss for the constant eye relief, it gives up some FOV, but gives some extra magnification (if you ever use it).  I do like the idea of the constant eye relief as it is one less variable when taking the quick shots ;D.

Thankyou for taking the time to help out.
